$1000

If you had $1000 extra right now to do with as you pleased, what would you do with it? Pay bills? Finish Christmas shopping? I am expecting some money very soon, it should be near $3,000. If I get it before Christmas I might spend a bit on more shopping, but not much. My shopping is essentially done, but like everyone, I wish I could do a bit more. What we plan on doing with this money is getting my van fixed, getting hubby's car fixed, and replacing our TV which is about to die. If we have anything left over after that we'd like to buy tickets to see Disney on Ice, and perhaps tickets to see Dancing with the Stars Live. Hopefully we'll have enough to cover everything we want. So what would you do with some extra money right now?

I would probably put the money tward our next mortgage payment to get a head a lil bit on that and then let the extra's on this pay on some other bills or pay ahead on other bills. There's just so many places I could use a $1000 that it would be helpful but no matter the amount it just doesn't seem like it goes as far as it used to anymore KWIM? It's kinda sad really, I was hoping the fed's would give a gov stimulus check again ;) I could really use a lil boost again.

I think that this would be a good idea in view of the world economic crisis snugglebunnies. You will feel good to be ahead of the game if you lost a job through downsizing or something. I actually pay a little more on my morgage each month and then I don't pay my mortgage in December so I have that money for Christmas. My mortgage is mall and have only 4 years to go to have finished paying for my little house. I also save coins all year and am about to change them out. I have enough to buy a turkey and ham for Christmas too. I'm very cheap! Blessings

But most people paid their bills I bet with it or got a few things they needed to do that they didn't have the finances for rather than running out to the store to buy frivilious things as inteneded KWIM? It just helped keep us afloat a lil longer... really.

I agree on the stimulus check. Had they given it within the past month or so, it probably would have been spent exactly how they wanted it to be.... blown on Christmas presents. It would have been very nice. Too bad it didn't come through.

Oh gee, if I was blessed with $1000.00 right now, I would start writing checks to catch up with some of my bills. I would take some and finally buy myself something new. I would treat myself out to a nice dinner, I haven't been able to do that in a while, and I would get my cats a chia pet for Christmas.

Well as it happens, my country's government has decided to give people like me, on pensions, a bonus for Xmas to help us overcome some of the difficulties caused by the world economic crisis, and that bonus will be, for me, $1050, and arrives in 2 days time. They are madly encouraging us to spend! spend! spend! so as to boost the economy, but I suspect that most of us poor, struggling, and very suspicious pensioners will do precisely what I intend to do - pay it off the credit card. Our current interest rate is the lowest it's been for thirty years, or something like that, and houseowners with mortgages are happy, but people with investments are not. But the credit card companies think all their Xmases have come at once, and where other interest rates are all dropping, they have raised theirs, in my case, to nearly 19.5%. And the government wants me to spend? I don't think so. Lash

That's excellent you're getting the extra money. Our government was talking about it, but didn't actually do it. I think the majority of people would spend the money on Christmas presents, which is why it's such a great idea to send the money out this time of year.

If i have that sum of money RIGHT NOW, i'll be shopping for 2 birthday presents. And one of the two birthday presents is for my love. I have about a month left to get something for her. But i'm left with no idea of what to get her. Do you guys have any ideas about christmas present for girls?? Well... i guess she doesn't know that i have feelings for her, but she does know that i care for her, a lot. So yeah, i don't think a big present would be a good idea.

Well, just recently my husband got over $1000 from being able to cash out some of his Sick time and Vacation pay that he was not using as well. We were able to just enjoy some of it, but we had to also buy New tires for our Car, and pay some Bills as well. It would be nice to sometime have some extra $$ and not have to use any of it to pay Bills, but I doubt that will ever happen for us as well.

Wow! If I had an extra $1000 just to show up, I would give $100 to my church, $100 to a local radio station, and $100 to a Christmas Fund for the needy. Then, I would place $500 in my savings account. So far that's $800. The other $200 would be what I call "mad money." I would just go out shopping and buy things I wanted...without really having to justify it or pay attention to my budget.

You have a smart way of spending your money! I like that. If this were a contest to see who was most deserving of the money, I'd say you'd win due to your unselfishness.

If I had $1000 I probably would do some Christmas shopping. Because of money being so tight we only go gifts for our kids. We didn't get each other anything or anyone in our family. It is hard to get all of the family because there are so many that get us gifts. I probably would just get the kids and my husband more stuff and then use it to pay our huge electric bill.

Last winter my electric bill reached over $1,000 for one month! Hopefully this year it won't be as bad.

Hello, katsmeow1213. With $3000 it may be hard to do everything you wish. It will basically depend on how much you spend fixing your husband's car and how much are you willing to spend on your new TV. At least those items I'm sure that can be done. But, depending on how much you spend with it, there will be no money left for the rest of your plans. If I got $1000 right now, I would like to buy an electric guitar for me. I am wanting one for a long time already, and cannot afford. I'd like to win it as a Christmas gift, but I don't think it will be possible either. Respectfully, Munhozmib.

We have a list of priorities with our money, and what can't be done, won't be done. The cars are more important.

Well I actually did just get an unexpected $1000 gift from my father yesterday for christmas. I don't know what to do with it. See my daughter's father owes 6 months in child support and I should hold on to it for bills in the strong case that he doesn't pay anything in the next few months. My christmas shopping was done so the kids don't need any more items. So I wouldn't do that. What I would like to do is first put some in the bank accounts of the kids as gifts from their granddad. second use some for car repairs that are much needed. third and what I REALLY want is a new computer. Mine is 8 years old which I got used and it is feeling it. Can't buy games for the kids cause the video card too old. Can't burn or play anything on cd as that is fried. Just the other day the monitor blew and I had to grab an anicent one from the basement to get it on now. SO I would LOVE LOVE LOVE a new PC. So since I am owed a lot of child support without any hope in the near future for payments, I am likely to use it for bills

Yeah I have one that is $50 that I never got and never counted on, like bonus money, but his is for over $500 a month which makes it tough.

I haven't gotten a child support payment in years, but I never did count on it much anyways, it was only $50 a month, and most of the time I'd only get half anyways.

I honestly have no idea. There are so many things I could spend the money on. We need a new television too. The compressor is going out on the fridge we have in the kitchen and I need a new fridge for the garage for cooling the toffee too. I could use it as a down payment on a different car since mine in one problem after another. The list is endless.

That's the problem isn't it? Too much to do, not enough money to do it with. Obviously for us the cars come first, the TV second, and whatever is left over will be put towards the other things we want. Luckily when something like the fridge goes, we can get it through hubby's work at a good price. We have that option with the TV, we're still debating what kind of TV to get, he wants a big one that will cost over $1000... what is it with men?

Pay off a few smaller bills, get my flooring installed in my bathroom (we purchased it but haven't had it installed yet), buy a digital camera to get started on etsy.com, a few new clothes for everyone. That sort of thing.

It's a place to sell crafts and retro collectables. I make lots of small items and need a good camera for posting photos of my inventory. I haven't started yet because I do not own a digital camera. I'm hoping to get one if I can get enough Christmas gift money together.

I wish that I had one thousand US right now! If I did I would put it all on my credut card. I helped pay for my daughter's Masters in the States and I cannot seem to pay it off. A thousand US would be wonderful. I agree, we all need to have some fun time and a little spent on that will help yo feel so very good. I do hope that you get the vehicles fixed as this is so necesary and a new TV would be welcomed by all family members. Blessings

If we had some money come in like that then I reckon the first thing we would do would be to pay the holiday off that we have booked for August. I dont reckon there is anything else I would want more.

$1000 will be a big help to me right now. I will be able to pay my bills and also have enough for the rent and living expenses. I can also get a decent hair cut and buy gifts for my family. Merry Christmas to you and congratulations on your Christmas money :)

If I got extra $1000, I definitely add it into my Forex trading account. I make about 34% profit in 2008. It could be much better if I didn't screw up things in middle of April. For next year, I am expecting at least 50% return. So, the more money added in the account, the better.

If I had that extra money I would have first of all saved 50% of it for a rainy day as emergency money. I believe that one must always have some reserve. They say that "no man becomes rich by earning more money, he becomes rich by spending less than he earns." Always spend less than youget. Save up some money always only then you will never be caught wanting.

I would probably invest it than saving it or spend it to other things. I might put it on a mutual fund or anywhere else that can make my money grow big. Be wise in spending your money.
