Hi all mylotters ... Almost all of us who use computers has experience of using MS office suit like MS Word, MS Excel, MS Access, Ms Powerpoint etc. Has anybody used alternative office software like OpenOffice, StarOffice etc? Which one among them you find best? Do you think is it better to use these alternatives than to using pirated software and be a cause of loss to the developer i.e. Microsoft?

I've used a few over the years trying to save a few bucks. but I am back with MS. The problem that I had was that some of the formatting didn't translate properly even though I saved it as a .doc file. I felt that the inaccurate formatting made me look sloppy to my clients and partners.

Hi guardian .. I had the same experience some years ago with openoffice but the latest versions are better...but it is sure that they are not at par with MS. They have to go a long way. But for that need our support. We may use them in addition to MS in non-critical tasks. Happy mylotting..

OpenOffice ofcourse. im slowly trying to change all my system softwares with freewares. I had a dream 10 years ago about this, when i would do big programs and let people use it for free. i guess, some people also have this dream and made it a reality.

Thanks for response and also for using licensed software. MS Office is really tested and the best office program, no doubt. But there are some who has not enough to buy one, for them it is better to find alternatives. Happy mylotting..

I now use openoffice. I used to use msoffice but I just think microsoft charges way too much for their products. openoffice is pretty good and it's free. I prefer using free programs over pirated ones since they encourage developers to produce more free programs and they provide competition for big developers like microsoft. Competition helps bring prices down, thus benefiting consumers. I now use open source programs as much as possible. I use firefox instead of ie and I use foxit instead of adobe. I support open source software and I think everyone should since it would benefit us consumers.
