My right eye has almost lost sight in just half a year because of the so called shading, and the doctor suggests that I have an eye operation to remove the shading. Not big issue, just a clinic operation. I have all the pre inpections done, about to make an appointment, but still hesitating if there are other means. I am really afraid my eye be subject to operation. Anyone to offer his opinion, very much grateful to him.

It sounds as if you have a cataract. I've never heard of anything called shading. If you've lost half your sight in that eye, surgery may be the only option. In cataract surgery the lens is removed and a new one put in. It's almost always successful, but if you're unsure about having it done, I strongly recommend that you see another doctor and get a second opinion. If you do, don't see someone that your present doctor recommends. Get an independent opinion. I have very mild cataracts, and I'm trying to reduce them with nutritional supplements--lutein, vitamin E, plus some others. I really don't want to have surgery, and unless my eyes get worse, I don't intend to.

Thanks a lot for your advice. I will consult another doctor and keep you informed if you wish. Good health and a happy holiday!
