i can tell you some things my company asked me to follow..
-- Pick up within the first three rings.. the later it is.. the more chances of the caller getting frustrated.
-- State your name clearly. nice to add a greeting
--Wait for the other person to finish before you start answering .. This needs a lot of patience. Don't butt in.
-- Always try to bring the conversation to a logical end.
I shall stop boring you now.. If you need me to continue, lemme know :)

Sure, treat your telephone as an instrument and not as a weapon, treat the other person as one of you and not as trash can, and all the perfect social etiquette's will follow.
