I'm so annoyed with money right now! It's hard to buy nice gifts for my family and friends when I have a $600 rent to pay and $50 electricity bill, have to pay for gas, spend about $150 a month on groceries. It's so frustrating!! Especially since it's the holiday season.. I mean I make $300 a week at my job (i'm only 18) but it just seems like it's not enough when it's more than enough. I want to have things too! haha. I'm just venting by the way Anyone else feel overwhelmed with money issues?

Yes I think alot of us are feeling the pinch on money issues right now. I pay 870.00 for rent 124.42 for phone, cable and internet package. 40.00 for elecric. I only make 324.23 every week and by the time all the bills are paid each month I feel like I have nothing left to myself. I still will buy stuff for me and others if they need it. I know that my mother's old famious saying "good things come to those who wait give and you shall recieve" So far the saying has been true as much as I was afraid to spend anything after the neccesities were taken care of.

We're in the same boat as most of the world. We're not buying anyone any gifts for Christmas this year. All of our money is tied up with bills. Money is so tight that we had to get a Christmas box from the Salvation Army so that the kids could get something for Christmas. It's so neat some of the things my daughter got. My daughter received so much that we're going to put some of the stuff up for Easter or when she's having a really good day. Althouh, my son didn't get as much. He didn't need a whole lot though. He's only 16 months old, and he doesn't need a whole lot.

Hi vanonas, Wow...you are very independent..that's cool! ANyway, I know even if you will just get them inexpensive things, they will be happy, the thought and care counts more than the present! DO not stress yourself about it, or maybe you can just buy their favorite food!

Yes I know that feeling. That's a lot of bills to take care of especially with the food prices going up and the job market going down. But you are young vanonas, nobody is going to be mad at you because you didn't give them gifts! I found ways to give gifts without ruining our pockets. I love to cook. I make delicious snacks and pickles that can be stored for a long time. I wrap them very nicely and give them as gifts to friends and some family members. Take care and happy holiday season.

I can sympathize. I have two checking accounts in our household. Right now one is overdrawn almost $200.00 because I apparently forgot to log something. The other one has a whopping $0.82 in it. Whoopie! And I still haven't bought a thing for my guy for Christmas. Our tree has one very tiny gift wrapped under it, and its a bottle of aftershave for my Dad. I still have unpaid bills for this month, and don't know how I'm going to get thru til the end of the month this way. So yea, I'm definitely stressed!

I'm a student employee at the college I attend and I wish I made more money. It's hard enough fitting in hours when so much time has to be dedicated to an engineering course load. I personally don't like the holiday season because I don't want to part with my cash! haha The trick is not to go overboard with the spending. Pick a few people and buy modest priced items that are useful. Easier said than done.

Not more than an hour ago, I was thinking at how different things are down in the States, where you learn responsibility and how to manage money early. While we seem to have the idea here in Canada, that one does not need to go to work as a teenager, and certainly not be on their own at eighteen, but rather be going to college or university. I remember when I was working at eighteen -only got grade twelve and how hard it was. I had to board, could not afford to rent. Even now, at my age (past retirement) what I went through still effects me and I am nervous of spending money. I do recall we used to have Christmas funds where we put money aside each month to spend for the next Christmas. And yet I could not have enough for that. You could not buy much for between $10 to $15 even then.

i am same age as you, but i don't need money for my things as my parents are doing it for me. i am not in a big city not even town. here it is very difficult to find a part time job and earn in this age. people are so rural and they don't trust you. it's horrible. that's why i am working in internet for more time .

I am right down the same alley as you. Usually by this time, I am done with my Christmas shopping, but due to money issues, not everyone is receiving a gift this year. I am trying so hard to make ends meet, but I can't, so there are some things I need to sacrifice.

Without trying to preach, let me just say this: Live within your means and to heck with everything else. :o) I'm in fierce credit card debt because I couldn't live within my means. Don't do that. I was too worried about what everyone else thought about my clothes, my makeup ... blah blah blah. It's just not that serious, ya know? And another thing ... Christmas isn't about the most expensive gifts or anything like that. You know what I'm doing? Baking! I'm making baskets for EVERYONE on my Christmas list. And even that is skimmed down this year. I'm making cinnamon sugar popcorn, sugar cookies, mint thins, chocolate chex mix, pecan pie mini muffins and a few other things. The only person I purchased gifts for was my son. He's almost 3 and Santa was good to him this year. Also, tips for next year ... Begin putting away money from your paycheck each week into a Christmas savings account. My husband has one with his job (you can do one at the bank) and he has $55 per paycheck that goes into it. So, twice a month we're saving money for Christmas. It was very helpful this year because we used about $500 for JD's Christmas and most of the rest went to pay bills for this month. Oh, and all the food for the baking will probably be about a hundred dollars. I did some fierce coupon clipping today so who knows! lol ... Good luck with everything. :o) And one more word of advice from a 26 year old mom. :o) Although it may seem like you don't have any money for it, start yourself a savings account and just put about $10 a week into it. TRUST ME on this one. It is the smartest thing you can do. Good luck to you! :o)

At our house, money isn't a big issue. Both of my parents have pretty good jobs that aren't in danger, during this recession. But because of this recession, my parents want to save more money, just in case, for a rainy day. I have been trying to save more and more money. I used to be able to whip through $60 in 2 weeks for my lunch money, but I've been trying to buy less foods (so I won't waste any), and I've managed to use $60 in 4 weeks, which, to me, is a huge improvement. This Christmas, we are going to Orlando, Florida, so we aren't getting as many presents as we usually do. I'm hoping to save enough money to buy my mom another ipod, the new nano ones. I know a lot of families that are frustrated about this whole money issue, so you aren't alone! I kind of am, too. But good times are yet to come.
