What is a good condolence gift?? (Not flowers or a fruit basket)

I am trying to come up with a good sympathy gift for someone whose husband just passed. I feel like there will be too many bouquets of flowers and fruit baskets and I want to do something that is simple and practical for the family. I was thinking of having dinners mailed to them from places like Home Bistro, but I want to get some other fresh ideas. Any thoughts?

My religion has a tradition of always sending things that are round, to represent the circle of life, and sweet to replace the bitterness of grief. A very special cake, cupcakes, cookies, etc., can be ideal! Everybody in mourning seems to want to munch away the tears!
