Well, there are many great players when it comes to batting. I find it very difficult to come up with a single player and call him as a best. As far as I have seen, the following players are the ones I think that are the greatest of cricket. 1. Aravinda Desilva 2. Don Brad man 3. Mark Waugh 4. Sachin Tendulkar 5. Matthew Elliot 6. Ricky Ponting 7. Brian Lara 8. Damien Martyn 9. Inzamam-ul-haq 10. Adam Gilcrhist 11. Sanath Jayasuriya and many more. This list will go on and on and on.. . I think not only one cricketers should be considered as greatest by just seeing his records. Some players wouldn't have got chance in his young age and couldn't be able to have a glistering records. I think they are many players and I always admired the players that I listed in the top.

There were similar discusiions in this forum before I had mentioned even then that the younger generation would have missed watching the best batsman in action- SIR VIV RICHARDS. During his time he was undisputedly the best player around.Opponents actually feared bowling to him. He had a very casual approach to his batting & mostly dealt dealt only in boundaries.

Sachin tendulkar is the best cricket player in the world and i think no one can beat his world record,if he continues to play for one or two years more.

For me Brian Lara is the greatest batsman in the world. He may not play as many centuries as Sachin Tendulkar but when he plays a century he goes big, 400 not out takes more than just being a human Brian is undoubtedly the greatest the world as ever seen thanks.

At the moment it has to be Sachin Tendulkar. But when it comes to grit and character in playing under crunch situations i would prefer Ricky Ponting nothwithstanding Sachin's unique and surprising innings of carrying the team through in Chennai Test Match. But since performnaces are judged by records by fans it has to be Sachin.Hopefully his innings at Chennai will go into the top 100 innings of all time in Wisden's list as despite 41 centuries none of his innings are at the top out there as Wisden has many parameters which a blind cricketing fan doesnt follow.
