what is the lifespan of your laptop?

hi all! most of us have laptops aside from desktop PCs. there are even some who forego the desktop PC and own just a laptop PC. and because of its popularity, more and more laptops pack so much power, portability and versatility. some laptops can even be as powerful as a spec'ed high-end gaming desktop PC! however, some laptops may have some weaknesses. some have short battery life. some are weak to drops or spills. and some simply just die out due to eventual age-related malfunction. in my case, i have a second-hand Acer TravelMate 2420 that i bought from my cousin last July 2008. if i remember it correctly, she bought it brand-new around mid-2007. so this means that my laptop is now more than 1.5 years old. thank goodness it's still working normally. however, signs of its age is showing. its battery only provides two hours of power without a plugged AC adapter. and it usually gets too hot, especially when i use it in my room if i turn off the airconditioner and just open the windows. but i think it will still last (especially with a brand-new battery and probably a memory upgrade) for three more years until it probably would conk out permanently. how about you guys? how long have you had your current laptop? or if you got rid of an old one, how long did it last you and why did you have to dispose of it?

My laptop is 1.5 years old , it works perfect , i have enough ram for my work it works perfect except for the battery , it lasts for barely 10 minutes, but its just enough to shut down in an emergency i have a surge protector , connected when i use mains. that has helped my adapter to work at a lower temperature .So i can keep my laptop connected for many hours on the mains

hi there bobyktm! our laptops have the same age! although i think it's bummer that your battery is weak already. mine has already lost 30% of its capacity (2 hours instead of the usual 3 hours) and i need to always have it plugged in to be sure. although, this would be a problem when i'm outdoors, or in a coffee shoppe... oh well. come to think of it, i usually don't lounge around a coffee shoppe for more than 1.5 hours! hahaha. anyways, thanks for replying and happy mylotting! =)

I got my current laptop in June 2006. It is a Lenovo 3000 N100. I have added an additional RAM and upgraded the processor. Other than the battery failing, the whole laptop is still functioning properly. I think it will last for another year or 2 before a major malfunction may occur. But I will be considering getting another laptop next year. If possible I will be getting another Lenovo as it has served me well. Cheers and Happy MyLotting...

My laptop is about 4 years. It has been working well until now,but I want to buy a new one for my old one has been outdated and its functions are too limit. Most importantly,my specialty requires a more advanced computer,so I have to put aside the old one which has helped a lot for my work.

hi there quyiishahaoran! wow, 4 years is very long! i wish mine would last as long as that, even if it would become outdated. i'd also buy a more updated model, but i would still like to have the old laptop as a backup. =) i wish you would have the chance soon to buy your new laptop so that your job would become a lot more successful! =) thanks and happy mylotting! =)
