Ok, apparently today is my day for people to mess with me. I have received three calls in the last hour and a half from telemarketers. One telling me that I can get a loan, one about a vacation package I won, and another telling me about how I can make a six-figure income from home. I used to work in one of those call centers, so I try to be polite when a live person calls me but today I have had enough. Caller #3 simply got a "not interested" and I hung up. Poor caller #4.... If I need a loan, I will go and research the best venue to get the money. No one can call me on the phone and convince me to take on a debt. When are these call centers going to realize that telemarketing really doesn't work anymore? Am I mistaken? Are there people out there buying timeshares and getting loans because someone called them?

Even though I'm on the do not call list, I still get tons of calls from telemarketers. So many, that I let the answering machine screen all of my calls. The latest trick is that as soon as the machine picks up, they hang up probably so that I can't report them. They must be successful or they wouldn't call. The thing that made me the angriest was when my Aunt was in her 90's and she would have a constant barrage of calls. She would talk to them because she was lonely when no one was around and sooner or later, she would give them her credit card info. One political party called her every couple of weeks soliciting a donation. When she would tell them that she was on a fixed income, they would tell her that it was urgent that she donate this time and she would give them her credit card number. When she got a credit card bill for over $2,000, I disputed all of the charges and we had to hide the credit card.

That is terrible! I can't stand people that prey on the old---or anyone for that matter. I thought by answering the calls to say I wasn't interested that would lessen the number of calls I get. No such luck. I guess I will just have to leave the machine on to answer them.

Yes, telemarketers annoys me sometimes as well. It rarely happens that when they phone me: I am in a need of exactly THAT product or service.
