Suicide doors are doors that open in the reverse direction. Suicide doors are called suicide doors because in the old days, these doors were prone to open in a crash during an accident. In those times, most vehicles did not have seatbelts. So the driver and any passengers could be ejected out of the car easily. Another potential risk of these doors occurs when driving at speed. The fast moving air passing over the car creates an area of low pressure. This difference in pressure between the cabin and the outside of the car has a sucking effect on the doors which trys to open it if the door is not properly latched and locked. On a conventional car, if the door becomes unlatched, the fast moving air around the car, which is going in the opposite direction to the car, will force the door closed. But with suicide doors, the fast moving air, moving opposite to the car, pushes the door open instead. Which increases the chances of the driver or any passengers being ejected out of the car. So driving a car this dangerous was said to be "suicidal." One also need not have to be driving to be killed by the "suicide doors". If you are parked alongside the road and start to climb in or out of the car, you have to be aware of approaching vehicles. On a normal car door, when opened into oncoming traffic, it will be ripped off the vehicle. However, if you have suicide doors, it will be violently slammed shut. If you happened to be climbing in our out of the vehicle at the time, you would more than likely be crushed and seriously injured. So comes the name "Suicide Doors".
