VP Cheney is saying he has the authority to decide what if any of records from his time as VP will be given to the public archives. Cheney is currently being sued by the Citizen for Ethics and Responsibility for ALL of his records. They want all of them turned over the public archives. What do you think should happen. Should all of the records wether business or personal (private) related be put into public archives?

I believe that all publicly elected officials should be subject to intense scrutiny after their term is run, and punished where appropriate. Of course, neither side of politics would ever take the risk of making this law, since they are all tarred with the same brush. Lash

Yep I agree with you there. The democrats will not push this one because they have their own things they want to hide.

I think that anything that has to do with the job should be taken somewhere far away from him. But, I am sure that Cheney has already destroyed any evidence that could hurt him, or the president.

Atleast everyone after Nixon, they have all learned what happens in the White house, can come back to haunt you.

Well, he isn't the first, ask Bill and Hillary why their records haven't been made public yet.

For the same reason that this guy will not do it. No politician wants the people to know the truth. They only like them knowing what they are told.

I think all the records should be made public as the government has a duty to let people know and see what it has done. These people should be accountable for their actions and if the people cannot see the files how can they know the truth. Of course he can also destroy them if he can get away with it or claim they are too secret to be shown but then the incoming administration has a right to see them.

He could if no one stops him. I suppose it depends how his staff feel about it. If one of them wanted to expose something they could do so. I doubt it though as this never seems to happen.
