I think that is is so sad that Woolworths is closing. I see it has just days left before all its stores in the UK close down. The recession is hitting some shops very hard. In my local high street a travel agency and a few estate agents have closed down. I am visiting Cape Town in January and my travel guide book says Woolworths is there. I have seen one in Los Angeles.
Does it shock you when a large shop chain closes down?
Is anything like that happening in your local area?

I dont think the sa stores will close. It will just be bought by edcon in the end. Here in sa, we dont have much money troubles. Things are quite like they used to be. I get quite worried when i see big places taking the fall. Its terrible.

Hi my friend Zorro Girl. I am delighted to heat that South Africa is not having the same money troubles my home country is having. I can't wait to visit Cape Town next month and it will be summer time. Hopefully Woolworths in South Africa will be bought up and stay open.

Hi my friend Bomb Shell. It is so sad that your local Woolworths has closed. What a shame it is when so many businesses close down. I bought travel insurance that will pay if the airline closes down before my flight to Cape Town. Life is unstable for even some of the largest businesses it seems like Woolworths.

we still have have woolworths stores here in Australia although we call them Big W, I hope ours don't close down as well, I love that store, I go to our Big W a lot, gee I think we are all going to have to start really thinking about our immediate futures...

Oh yes, I can remember going to Woolworths in Australia now. It is great to shorten a name so the Big W sounds wonderful. The immediate future is uncertain in many cities and towns in my home country. Good luck to the Big G in Australia. I hope the situation is better there my friend Lilac Lady.

I"m not sure it shocks me, but some closings can surprise me.
Around where I live I have seen many small stores closing or moving. Some I was used to go to for many years. But of course things keep being rough and it's either closing or moving to a less expensive area.

I was upset when our local Woolworth store shut down. Then came the news that the Ames department stores were closing. Sign of the times.
