I felt like I was at a bar...

Tonight was our communities ladies holiday party. We always have it at this one woman's house, we have dinner then open presents where you can steal someone eles's gift. It usually lots of fun, and for the most part tonight was no exception. Usually I'm one of the first to leave - around 11pm - because not everyone has a job so they haven't been up as early as others of us. Well tonight at about 10pm, the lights started to go bright then dim then bright then dim - like they do in a bar at 1:45 when it's about time to go home. Then the hostess went over and turned the tv up REALLY loud. I just looked at the girl I was talking to and said "Oh, I guess the party's over" and at the same time, the hostess said "Oh, you all don't have to leave". WHAT??? I think that was really rude of her and if she wanted us to go she should have just said "Hey, it's been a great night, see you all next month at the meeting." That was so strange and out of character for her...
Are people just acting really stupid this Holiday Season? Or are they being "normal" around where you are?

Tis the Season for Uncharacteristic Rudeness.
Unfortunately I have been able to see what you mean. I don't knw when everyone decided it was okay to pack up their good manners for the winter, but I am getting little tired of playing nice with them. I wish it were just strangers since you can chalk that up to never seeing them again........ No, it seems that chummy acquaintances and friends have taken leave of their good sense and good manners as well.
It would have made more sense for her to make a kind of joke out of it..... She could have said smeohting like "It's been great fun. You don't have to go home, but you can't stay here!" Anything would have been preferrable to her just turning her back on her guests like that.

Thanks for the giggle - "You don't have to go home, but you can't stay here!"
I do think she coulda been a little polite about it. It was really strange...

I'm not as close to her as others are, but I think it's got something to do with one of the ladies that left our group and she is close friends with.
