I learned in a school where they were strict against taking leaves.Only for genuine reasons you could take leave. And that too should be accompanied with a valid medical certificate. With a fever or cold you are advised to take the medicine at home, come to the classes, you need not copy notes, rather watch silently what is going on.Also the parents welcome this and they didn't encourage leaves even. That way I completed my school with cent percent attendance and the school had the habit of honouring that every year with prizes. So,how was your school? Please share!

My school was nothing like that, you could miss 2 days and nobody questioned you, after that you needed a note from your parents. Needless to say i missed quite a bit of school, but still graduated.

Our school also required a medical certificate when a student is absent or an excuse letter from the parents. I think this is good to ensure that the students are not just cutting classes on their own and have valid reasons for being absent and that the parents are aware that their son/daughter is absent from school. The key here is monitoring and ensuring that students are doing things as they should be and are not involved in any hanky panky business.
