Why we have failed as Christians

December 20, 2008 6:59am CST
We have failed as Christians, Why do I say this? Because it is true. We have become complacent whiners about everything in the world. We put our trust in governments of men, we put our trust in political parties. And we find teachers to tickle our ears. If we didn't tell people we were christians, would they know we were? Or would they think we were backbiting complainers that were ungrateful for our very existence? We have a mission, and it is not to convert the masses by reciting scriptures, It says they will know you are Christians by your love, not your ability to quote scriptures, or how about, "They will know you are Christians by how much you hate homosexuals"? What a pitiful state the bride of Christ is in, she traded her gown for dirty rags. I leave you with the words of a hymn, Can you say by this hymn you have furthered the cause of christ, or have you made Christ an object of shame and ridicule? "Truly he has taught us to love one another, His law is Love and his Gospel is Peace. Chains shall he break for the slave is our brother, and in His name all oppression shall cease. Sweet hymns of joy in grateful chorus rise we, Let all within us praise His holy name."

Freethinking, did you ever read the book "Conversations in Missing the Point" I forget who its by, but its really good, about how "cultural" Christianity has kind of gone astray. You might be interested in it, do an Amazon search to find out more.

No I have not read that book I will do a search for it though. But today's church is far from God, they have his name on their lips but their heart is far removed.

not all of us had failed. just the few that keeps going out there and sin all the time, the ones who claim to be christians and don't do as they hear or read in church. the ones who think they are better then ones who don't go to church and still want to judge us for who and what we are. the ones who dis respect thier parnets and siblies, and think they have done nothing wrong. just a few who failed being a christina not all of us.

Of Course not all, but I would beg to differ on your other point that it is just a few, it is the vast majority, if it were not so there would be no hungry, no homeless, there would not be the crime there is now and we would not tolerate injustice around the world. With the wealth we have, why is it so hard to feed the poor? I do not put individuals in this claim but the whole church, If we allow our church to become complacent and find teachers to tickle our ears, then we are only lukewarm.

To be an example of The Christ is to live your life as an example of how The Christ lives in your life, in your heart you have received the teachings now go teach what you know to be right. The path to peace and blessings is paved by accountability. There are many tests and many will purify you more precious than silver or gold. I know the name of Jesus, I believe the teachings are for the good of all created. My GOD is great and universal. The glory of GOD is pure and holy, GOD Bless, Sincerely, Gary

As a Religion, Christianity has lived up to its Charter which was to make the Church Rich. Christianity was started by men as a Business and has remained a Huge money-making success for almost 2000 years. Granted its the best business this world has ever seen, (even though its a Scam) but Religion has left the world in a huge mess. Religion has been starting wars and murdering millions for centuries, and is showing very little sign of improving any time soon. Religious bigots in government positions play the populace as pawns, siphoning monies from government projects, not to mention other numerous unscrupulous dealings, all the while appearing as lily-white ( Christians) and attending church every Sunday. God, what a Scam this Is! This is ongoing, even in the most democratic and modern countries of the world, and until we are able to educate our Children to the perils of Religion, this fraudulent Religious Conspiracy will go unchecked and unabated.

Barehugs, there may be a lot of scammers in Christianity now, but you obviously know nothing about history. The early Christians were persecuted by the Romans. They clung to their beliefs and were slaughtered, fed to lions and imprisoned. Further, the Romans confiscated everything they owned. So basically, being a chrisian made you poor and in danger of your life. There were no central religious leaders, no pope, and the leaders gave up all they had to evangelize. According to their code, they were to take nothing with them (and own nothing) but a pair of shoes and a walking stick. they lived in complete poverty, and relied on the charity of others even for food. For many years, Christians continued to martyred and the poorest of the poor. Then, when persecution was less, Christians devised a system for thier members than can only be described as communism. The rich were compelled to give to the poor, property was shared, and every one was equal. This is recorded both in the bible and in independent historical sources. It wasn't until Constantine and the establishment of the Papacy that there was even a central church leader - that was way after Christianity began. So no, Christianity was not invented a scam. Far from it. Like all relgions, some Christian ministries have been corrupted by greed. Human nature has corrupted religion, and some people do scam and make money off of it. But for every power hungry evangelist who takes donations to make himself rich, there is an individual like Mother Theresa who, inspired by her religion, gave up everything she owned to spend her life helping the poor. Christian ministries and charities have saved the lives of untold numbers of people. In Lousiana, it was the Salvation Army, an organization supported and run by Christians, that saved the most people and was the most effective. Hundreds of independent churches also sent teams of workers to New Orleans to help. Christians give of themselves in soup kitchens, homeless shelters, pregnancy centers, and are the largest donaters to charities overseas. Now, I am not a religious person. I don't go to church, don't even really believe in any one religion above others. But there are both good and bad religious people. What about the Quakers, who have been pacifists for hundreds of years and have worked against every war? What about all the christians who worked the Underground Railroad and helped runaway slaves? Did you know that the Underground Railroad was established by christians and that the whole movement to end slavery started in Christian churches and was preached from christian pulpits? And did you ever wonder why most hospitals are named "St. Somebody or other" or called "Columbia PRESBYTERIAN" or BETH ISRAEL etc? IT's because Christians started them! There have been wars to promote certain religions and terrorists, but its people who corrupted religion, not religion that corrupted people.
