Can you please tell me if there is a religion (Christian or not) that believes the Sabbath falls on Saturday? My mom and I started a conversation about this, and I told her I didnt think there was a christian religion that believed that, but ow I am questioning my answer. Please, if you know, let me know as well! Thank you

Oh' I just have to add, and get this from my keyboard I'm going to write something totally contradictory to what I know is true... But here goes - Mr. Agent you are so correct, what you have written is straight out of the Bible and without error. :) LOL I thought you might like to see me write something like that at least once... :) Ahh' but trick side to what I've written, does that mean that I believe the Bible is without error? Nope, nothing could be further from the truth. But as they say every good lie has an element of truth in it. For us it is our job to figure out what is true and what is not. Come along Watson there is a mystery afoot...

No it doesn't depend on who you ask. The Sabbath is the Seventh Day, It aways has been. Sunday is not the Sabbath it is Sunday, the first day of the week. Why don't you ask God when the Sabbath is, he said it was the seventh day, Just because some Pagan Roman Emperor in 334 A.D Changed the day of Christian worship to Sunday the "venerable day of the Sun" as he was a worshiper of the Sun, doesn't mean the Sabbath was changed. Just because you worship on Sunday doesn't make it the sabbath. Read your Bible, The Sabbath is the seventh day, which was and still is Friday sundown to Saturday sundown.

There isn't a Christian religion that celebrate the Sabbath. The Sabbath for Jews is on Saturday.

I am pretty sure all Christian religions recognize the Sabbath.

jess, this is a relegious question. It was originally, on the Jewish calender recorded as from Friday sunset to Saterday sunset and still is. The first day of the week is originally the Sunday. So the correction, is not Saterday per say; but it's from Friday s/s to Saterday s/s. So, after Saterday sunset the Jewish Sabbath is over. They are then free to trade or party. The relegionists/pharisees (sanctimonious/hypocritical jews) made an issue out of this, when they saw that the diciples of Jesus were plucking the corn ears to munch on, because they were hungry. This was seen by them as working on the Sabbath. But Jesus reminded the pharisees, that the Sabbath was made for man and not man for the Sabbath. In other words; man has been given control or dominium over the Sabbath, and not visa-versa. In Genesis it does not say God rested from all his work on the Friday or the Saterday, but on the 'seventh' (7th) day. The seventh day is therefore any day that you decide to set apart for your worship; eg. it can be, from Monday - Sunday, or Tuesday - Monday or Sunday to Saterday. It will all be as correct; the 'seventh day.' Some Christians are celebrating it on the Saterday and the majority on the Sunday. Christians are using the Sunday, because it's regarded as the 'Lord's Day.' It is therefore not incorrect to use it, because Christ himself healed people on the (jewish) Sabbath, which the Jews condemned. Christ again reminded them that man is in control of the Sabbath. So, Jess, those who celebrate it on Saterday are not wrong; and those who do on Sunday are also not wrong. As long as it is on the 'seventh' (7th.) day we're all OK. God will not judge or condemn anyone for that.

Are you saying that a person would be good to keep each day holy as the seventh day as each day could be the sabbath? Okay wait a second, which day did we rest? Oh' yes, I get it only the wealthy and elite could do that. For if you do not have to work you could keep each day as a day of rest. Ante up...?

Jess, it's good to at least be in company where we can enlighten each other. I can also see the direction in which you are progressing in respect of relegious issues, it,s really interesting. And, we are learning from each other. Opinions may sometimes differ, but that does not keep us from continuing sharing our opinions.

Wsamboer~ I agree with your answer, I think that whatever day you decide to rest and keep holy could be considered the Sabbath (I've never thought of it like that before). I think the calander has changed so much that no one can decide on an official day. In my above post it talkes about how the weeks used to be divided up in increments of 10 days, so no one really knows what "day" it should fall on. Anyways, thank you for your response, and I think its a good one!

Cobrateacher, I think you might be interested in this discussion that I am providing this link for, you see that it is right here in MyLot and if you have any light that you could share with us on this matter I think the OP (Original Poster) would greatly appreciate your comments. Is Cyntrow a friend of yours? She might like to make your acquaintance and I'm certain that if you can tame a Cobra you'll have no problem with the whole group of people involved in the discussion. Here is the link: http://www.mylot.com/w/discussions/1837714.aspx I sure hope that you don't mind my making this request of you as I'm well aware of my standing upon religious issues with no preconception of any religion and a desire that all religions are joined together under a new umbrella where the truth is more important than anything else. I would like to extend my hand in friendship. To a new beginning of an old ideology that has been veiled and dormant for thousands of years. The First Amendment states that we have a right to our own Religion, I have to ask how is religion defined? (That might make for an interesting discussion...)

It was just the interpretation as you are writing with strong wording and punctuation. I didn't think you were yelling, I saw it as being assertive, they say that writing in Caps is the equivalent of yelling but some people have been able to express the emotion of anger through the written word very clearly and sometimes just writing assertively the same tone of those familiar with text written in anger can interpret anger being conveyed even if the person writing was not angry or yelling. I guess the only answer to offer at this point is to be very cautious of how and when you use strong punctuation. Especially if you don't want to be perceived in anyway as yelling or being angry. Hey' I'm just trying to help, I'm intervening with the hopes of spreading the Holiday Joy, The reason for the season, and the Light for all to see. Turning the negatives to positives, Happy Holidays, Peace and Blessings, Sincerely, Gary

There are many Sabbath-keepers (religious groups that currently worship on Saturday): 1. Seventh-Day Adventist Church is the largest modern Sabbatarian denomination 2. Branch Davidians (also known as the Students of the Seven Seals) - one of the most numberous sect that split from Seventh-Day Adventist Church 3. Seventh-Day Baptist Church 4. The Messianic Judaism 5. United Church og God, an important sect of the Worldwide Church of God that moved in 1995 from Sabbatarianism towards the Evangelical "mainstream" 6. Other Seventh-Day Church of God denominations 7. Chinese True Jesus Church Do not forget Judaic Shabbath. The lists also includes hundreds if not thousands of Christian Reformed Church denominations.

I was going to chime in about the Jewish traditions and that Saturday is the last day of the week on which GOD rested according to the Old Testament account of creation which all Christians believe to be the true words of GOD according to the translation of the text called the Bible. So do we rest on the last day of the week or the first day of the week? And why is this rest so important? As for the people claiming to be Christians? Well if you think the Bible is without error you might want to dig in for the truth. Did I mention you need a big excavating machine? ;) Peace and Blessings, Sincerely, Gary Happy Holidays and welcome to your quest for truth... Did you look under this rock over here yet?

The only two I know of is Judaism where they still believe the Messiah has not arrived, and still stick to the Old Testament, and also the Seventh Day Adventists. I think the Mormons do as well, but not to sure on that. There could be a couple of others but I could be wrong.

Thank you for the insight. I know Mormons consider Sunday the Sabbath BTW, but you may be correct on Judaism, and the person about you mentioned the Seventh Day Adventists, so i think we can all agree on that! Thank you again!

Yes, it is call The Seventh Day Adventist, they acknowledge Saturday as the Sabbath. I actually have a friend who is a Seventh Day Adventist. I went to church with her one Saturday, everything is the same except for the days of worship. Everything seemed as I know it, maybe their doctrines are a little different.

i was raised seventh day adventist.. and no, not everything is the "same" other than the day recognized as the sabbath. in addition to this.. there is a heavy racist tone in which yer not allowed to "breed" outside of yer race, its considered a major sin. also.. eating any meat is also cause for you to go to hell. ;rolls eyes;
