Feel free to disagree with me if you must by giving examples of those that are not. But in my soap watching days (a long long time ago )I found that I could stop watching for days or weeks and still be able to catch up with the current scene. That is because they take one theme and stretch it over several days, so even an action as driving for a block can be the theme of several episodes. This often make these soap boring and drawn out. With regard to many of the mini series the first two episodes are good and then the others lack any kind of creativity and as result they often overstay their welcome and normally gets cancelled by network television. Like I said feel free to disagree and provide examples of those that are not drawn out.

I think they are. I used to watch soaps - well one soap - and I could stop watching it for days and then when I started watching it again, it was still on the same thing and I knew just what was going on. I quit watching because it started to get boring.

Yeah, to a point I agree with you. I am a 39 year soap vet and it used to not be l;ke that - about the 80's - miss a day, miss alot, but lately, no - - pretty much 2=3 times a week and you got it. Catch Friday and Monday and you got hte most of it! But years ago they were only 1/2 long and limited to what they could do as far as being "allowed" on tv - now, pretty much anything goes and they do all kinds of things - some good some bad some interesting some annoying and all that, but they are an hour now (okay, 40 minutes!) but there is more thay can do... but then again, just a few more minutes to drag out a storyline - and often it is just based on a actors contract term or something like that! That is when it gets annoying! Mini series - I don't watch many of them, just cause they are not of interest to me. North and SOuth - that was fantastic - very factual and constant action. All the Rivers Run - again, alot of action in alot of different ways. Very interesting too But I guess those are the only ones I liked. Roots, good grief, talk about dragging out and and Thornbirds - never did finish either of those!

I think that this happens because the TV stations care about how many people are watching a shoe, rather then the artistic integrity of the show. As long as people are watching, ratings are steady and rising, then the show will continue. That is a shame really, but it doesn't surprise me too much because it's a business. And in business sometimes, there is no accounting for taste. Some people will continue to watch something that is just stagnant and unimaginative, and so if the ratings are high enough, why take the effort and money to do something that likely won't do as well. Its all a money thing I think.

you are absolutely right.Ive gone months without watching and still know whats going on .I think they do this because they are on every weekday so they have to draw out every story line as long as they can.
