Good Day nocovi.... ^_^ I've tried already OpenSuse, Fedora, Debian, Damn Small Linux, Puppy Linux, Arch, Slacx, CentOS, Slitaz and Elive.... But before that Ubuntu is to one who introduce me to the world of Linux, before I tried and tested those Linux Distro I mentioned.... I begun to understand and like what is Linux is all about and also Unix and Apple OS.... And I let go my windows a year ago.... I'm using now a full Linux Ubuntu OS of course a still a little bit of Windows via Virtualbox coz there's a little thing you can let go like MS Office, ACDsee and Adobe Photoshop.... Those Linux has little common like or almost the same software packages, desktop managers, file systems, partitioning and system security.... The softwares and applications you gonna see and use to the other linux distro you can also see and use the same softwares and applications to the other linux distro also.... Like those different kind of desktop managers Gnome, KDE, xfce, enlightenment, Fluxbux, Icewm and so on that can be installed in any Linux Distros.... And I figured out difference between those distro are on how the applications and software packages will be distribute into different its own servers.... Like the rpm's and debians packages.... Because some of linux distro distribution servers are not sometimes fast in updating those packages.... And some linux distro are not easy to setup devices compatability.... They have some community but not enough for making solutions to a problems.... And waiting for the solutions is so long to find out and sometimes there's no solution at all.... I don't want to wait longer coz my patience is short in waiting and I don't want to wait the there's nothing will happen its a waste of time..... But the Ubuntu servers their package distrubtion are always updates they are fast.... And before putting those packages into the servers its already fully tested.... That's why I like Ubuntu because of their performance and quality in making softwares and applications packages easily to install and to update..... And I like Ubuntu also because it has more and very large communities than other Linux distro.... More communities means more and fast solutions...

yeah nacovi that's the way it should be.... The best of Linux is free and its for all humans.... lol.... But not all Linux are free like Elive and Suse (but OpenSuse is free).... Suse and OpenSuse is a Novell and like MS Windows is Novell also..... And for additional info if you know KDE, well, MS Windows will soon introduce KDE to its system..... Maybe on Windows 7.... Actually you can now download today a beta version of KDE for Windows, you can find the download on the webpage of KDE.... To tell you the truth I like Linux because of my frustration to Apple Mac lead me to Linux.... Linux is almost like Apple Mac but Mac is really cost more and that's my problem of having Apple Mac..... And I will do lots of my production under Linux and when I have enough earnings I will get a Mac and of course I still intall Linux on it..... lol..... no matter what..... And my pc (a 512mb of ram on a hyper threading intel p4) is too slow in Windows XP, especially with those memory sucking viruscan.... And my PC runs smootly on Ubuntu Linux with a Compiz Fusions desktop effects my it almost look like an Apple Mac..... lol.......

We cannot deny that Mac OS,it is a Unix based OS,I really hope Linux can develop faster. At current time, the 3D effect of Mac OS is the most excellent.Apple has so much money, you know.It seems more M$.I love linux which is more free, open and with many flavor. It is more promising than both Microsoft and Mac OS.Like Ubuntu,it has no IT giant like Microsoft and Apple back it,but it is turing so popular. If there are more fund and labor input on Linux,Linux will certainly win!KDE and Gnome are both very cool. But I also expect they can cooperate or even merger with each other, you know.KDE and Gnome has both different GUI and certain different application. If all linux can have both the bright feature of Gnome and KDE,they would be smarter and stronger.I am using Gnome, coz it is preinstalled GUI of Ubuntu.I am more accustomed with it.But I am also very keen on some KDE application...The large community of linux is the strongest backward development power of linux.

Good day, gjabaigar,I am glad you love Linux and specially Ubuntu so much.It seems you have experienced much more linux distro...Yeah,linux make me excited before my desktop.Though it is a little difficult to handle at some cases but its philosophy is more advanced.Even communicating with other linux users can give us a comfort feeling-a kind of identity which we are keen on.I really hope linux can be much better and more user-friendly.Linux should be a more specific and user-friendly OS which can really work out its difference with Windows and serve people around the world.

I started down the Linux Path with Unbuntu, the Hardy heron version, but found it too slow and Buggy, so I then swapped to PCLinux OS (PCLOS) and really liked it, it was smooth and felt good, but then I read that it was based on Mandriva so thought, Why have a copy and swapped to Mandriva instead. After a while and happy time with Mandriva, I then tried Puppy Linux for a while and his truly does zip along, although they have a few less packages around than others, so recently went back to Mandriva. So Now I am running Mandriva 2009.0 with Xfce window manager (the community edition) and it really is very good. Something I must add, is that with all the distros that I have tried I have noticed that the help and support from fellow users on the Forums is outstanding.

Yes,ubuntu is sometimes slow.I also think Mandriva attractive but I think I do not love Xfce very much. The help and support of fellow users is really important for novice like me.Thanks for your responding.

Ive tried a lot of distros but ive stuck with ubuntu and puppy. I like how user friendly ubuntu is but this sometimes gets in the way of configuring the system. I like puppy because its lightweight and fast.

Yes,Ubuntu has great user friendliness compared with other distro, however,it sometimes gets in the way of lacking dependencies and such.Which is very annoying.I 've encountered with this for several times.Maybe it need more configuration before satisfactory use.

PCLinuxOS Minime, I like it coz its cleaner and lighter then a name of other distros. The distro I believe is most promising would be the Ubuntu family, coz they come up with some of the better improvements and is more stable then most.

I can not agree more with U,Ubuntu is very promising with its special improvement mainly on the ease of use.I also wanna try minimised linux, but it seems there is not much of this offered by Ubuntu,it is a pity.

I used Arch Linux. Its a lightweight, flexible Linux distribution and used a good package manager. Beside that its optimize for i686 architectures (good for my old Pentium 4 but will get a new PC soon).
