Have you had something handed down to you? Or have you handed something down? It doesn't necessarily have to be an inheritance. I would be interested to hear stories about family heirlooms or it could be some wise advice that has been given to you. Have you been taught something important from a loved one? Could be an object or a life lesson. Please share.

I have some jewlery from my grandmother on my mother's side but I think the most important things I have are the things my elders taught me. I am who I am because of them.Even the lessons I learned the hard way I remember what they've said and thought..I should've listened..lol. I miss them..here's the last pic I had taken of me and my grandmother.

Thank you so much for sharing JenInTN! This photo is a treasure and you must value it so very much, it's a lovely one. You are right it's usually in hindsight that we realize how wise the advice we were given was! Thanks again.

I have inherited some ethnic jewelery from my mom, which she had gotten from her mother and her mother from her ancestors. Some date back to some centuries and I wish to preserve them. They are more symbol of family heritage and tells a lot about the fashion of the times. May be eventually we will have to hand it over to the government but as of now, I am extremely privileged to possess it.
And another lesson that i have learnt from my grand mother is - when you help someone do not expect in return and take that as helping yourself. Trust me it has helped me to fight the bitternesses in life gracefully.

What a privilege to have something so precious! Why do you have to hand them over to the government? Your grandmother sounds like a very wise woman. Thanks for sharing that!

I think after some centuries the heritage things have go to the government for preservation. I am not sure though. But I think there are certain law here.
Anyway, till then I am a proud possessor!

My great grandfather was part of early Australian history, so I have several historic family heirlooms which are very important to me.
