Plastic Bags, which are very colorful in market place. When we buy something in the shop, the shop keeper or shop owner put your things in the plastic bags and give you. We take that bag to our home and after taking the things from the bag, we just through the bag. This activity is happening everyday in our day to day life. Before using the plastic bags for carrying things, how many of us think that, plastic bags have the essential part in Global Warming??Plastic Bags are the main reasons for the Global Warming. So, Please avoid using the Plastic Bags, and use the recycle bags, paper bags which are not harmful for our world. To Save our World, Avoid using Plastic Bags. This is our World, we should take care of it. Will you be a part in taking care of our world????

That goes for those plastic Hefty and Glad trash bags too! No difference. I use the ones from the grocery store for my kitchen garbage can. That way I'm saving money and not investing money in garbage bags and contributing to global warming. If you have to get them, then reuse them or recycle them in some way. I have just started collecting the fabric bags to take to the grocery store with me but I would probably need around 20 and that will probably get old toting them around. However, for small trips, it is great and just a habit you need to get in to. Try it!

I agree with you kareng that there is no difference between a huge garbage bag going to the landfill or a small bag we use for garbage that we get free when we buy things at stores. I would rather use a bag from the store that I get for free then to go buy a box of huge garbage bags. Sometimes I run out of garbage bags from my shopping trips so then I have to buy large garbage bags but I only use them when I run out of the free bags stores give you or I need to change the cat little box then a little bag isnt big enough. I know some people make wreaths from plastic grocery bags. I remember doing that when I was a kid. You can also use the bags to stuff in packages when you are mailing something to keep the item in the box from getting damaged.

You can ask you mom whether she can use a fabric bag for getting tomatoes or not. Her answer would be probably yes... ask her to try that..... then there will be no plastic bags in your home.....

Our supermarkets have embarked on a Bring Your Own Bag days. They have dedicated Wednesdays for this and encourage people to bring their own reusable bags to the supermarket. On other days, you can even get a rebate of 10 cents for every $10 if you don't ask one. I like to carry my own bag. Even if I get plastic bags, I use them as trash bags, especially for my daughter's soiled diapers. I even save bread bags for these purpose. If I don;t need a bag, I will tell teh cashier also. I think if everyone plays a part, we can all help save the earth.I just went to look at all the plastic bags I have yesterday and found that I have way too many. I'm goign to stop asking cashier for bags for some time now. But not everyone in this house works same way as me though.

I agree that we should use paper bags whenever we can. Unfortunately, our family shops at Walmart a lot and they don't offer paper, just plastic. HOWEVER, they do have a bin at the entrance of the store where you can drop off your used plastic bags and they will be recycled. We try to do this every time we go to the store so that we aren't guilty of just throwing them away.

Wal-mart was the first store that I saw was doing this years back. Now I see just about every store that has a bin where you can drop off your plastic bags for recycling. Its wonderful. Even in my little town supermarket they even have a bin in the front of the store where you can drop off your plastic bags for recycling its so nice of them. I dont recycle my plastic bags though because I use them to line my garbage cans. When they are full I tie them up and toss it in the big plastic garbage can I have outside my house which goes out to the curb once a week.

I think the government still doesn't take this issue seriously. Lots of supermarkets still provide plastic bag for customers, such as Superstore, Shoppers' durg mart, T&T, Wal-mart, and Extra foods...etc. When I was ten, we often use plastic bag in China. Until the time when somebody told us to protect earth by avoid to use plastic bag. I barely use them from that moment. I don't know if people still use plastic bags for shopping in China. But right now my mom starts to use recycle bags for grocery. So may I ask if we still have a small amount of plastic bags in our apartment, is that still affect global warming somehow? I know this idea sounds silly. But that's just what I've been concern about. If I need to get rid of them, where can I dump them away? The public trash area isn't suit, right? Because if I leave the plastic bags in a public area. It would affect much more..

In my country, if you need a bag after shopping at the market, you would have to pay money for the bag. So more and more people take bag from their home to the supermarket or shop. I think most of us are willing to do something for our own earth!

i had stopped using plastic bags very long time back when i was in schools.... two reasons for it.... the first and main reason was that i had seen loads of plastic bags in the garbage bin close to my house and so one day while passing by i saw a cow eating something out of the plastic bag and eventually she was having the plastic too with the food inside it..... i went up to the cow and took out the bag and gave her the food inside instead..... so i managed to save this cow but there would be so many animals eating out of garbage cans and een tually eating out of plastic bags and eating the plastic with the food..... thats one thing and the other thing i learnt is that plastic cannot be recycled..... it cant be decomposed too..... and if burnt it emmits out a very toxc gas which is harmful for all living creatures of this planet..... this is the second reason so two reasons were more than enough for me to stop using plastic and make other people aware of this and i got many shop keepers especially to start using paper bags instead of plastic to give to the customer..... incase the customer was taking too heavy an item then there could be an option to buy a cloth bag and put the stuff in that and take it home.... soon it was such that people started taking cloth bags from home itself if they knew that they were going to go to a shop for some shopping !!

I've recently purchased some reusuable recycled bags at the grocery store. To my surprise, they are sturdy, roomy and easy to carry. I can put a lot more in them than in the plastic ones and they are fairly easy to carry. I was told by the bag boy that it will only be a matter of time before the plastic ones are phased out.

Just for your information, plastic bags are no more given for free in China. You have to pay 20 or 30 cents to buy one in the shopping malls. Inconvenient, isn't it? And the seller gets more without any change on the price of the goods they sell, not fair! But we have to take it, because in the long run, the result will be positive as everybody knows. Now we use environment friendly bags, which can also be colorful and personalized, some bought, others home made. We have only one globe, so we have to take good care of it.

Wow I never realized that about plastic bags. I usually do good with my plastic bags though. I reuse them but at some point in time they get thrown away. But I've noticed that a lot of shop keepers get POed when you ask for a brown paper bag than a plastic bag. Are they more expensive?
@arunmails (3011)

24 Dec 08
No they are not much expensive, but it is slightly costlier than the plastic bags, but, you can very well use such bags to avoid the environmental pollution and to take care of your health also.....

I believe if people concentrate on one issue like this they will automatically think of energy consumption, plastic bottle disposal, and other environmental issues as well. I have a huge collection of cloth bags I take with me and I only go to my local fresh and easy store to support local businesses and farms.

i have recently used those shopping bags where it's reusable. It's actually very handy and easier to carry because those plastic bags tend to rip and not strong enough.

Well... I did not know this but plastic bags a larger in numbers than paper bags. Also if you have something cold or wet to carry you can't put it in a paper bag because it would tear. But I would try to use plastic bags less.

I think plastic any thing is terrible for the environment. When you figure what goes into making them and the short use which turns into a long life in the dump. It all adds up to a terrible situation. I've taken to using cloth bags for shopping, and natural products for whatever else I can find. It's exppensive but I'd rather be without then use plastic.

I always request paper bags when I go to the store. I do have some plastic shooping bags that I have collected and I reuse them as trash bags for my smaller garbage cans. Some of the stores now have started these bins that you can return your plastic bags to for recycling. Every little bit helps!

I completely agree with you. All we do is complain about the environmental issues. We have to make sure that we do not misuse mother earth an dtake great care of it. It should be made a rule for shopkeepers to provide paper or eco-friendly bags to put in the stuff. Plastic bags are very harmful and are doing a lot of harm to us. We do not want to leave a polluted world for our future generations for sure. It is high time we all get up and do our bit. It is high time people, let us all pledge to b eeco-friendly in our ways of life.
