Poinsettias are known as a Christmas flower/plant and they are very pretty with large bright red flowers blooming. They are great for decorating the house during the holidays also. Poinsettias also make a great gift to someone that you don't know exactly what to give to. I have bought a small one for my house. I have it by the fireplace (we don't use this one) and it looks great along with the candles and greenery that I have in the fireplace for decoration. Mixed with some holiday berries, it looks great and adds to the Christmas spirit. (I think so anyway :)
So do you decorate with poinsettias? If so, how do you place them in your home? And last, do you give them as a gift? Happy holidays to one and all!

I got a free one from work again this year (they raffle off the holiday decor from the season). I got a small one this year but last year I got a huge one! This year they didn't use any real big ones and instead decorated with a ton of small ones. It's still cute and probably easier to care for than the huge one I had last year :)

Yes, they make wonderful presents and gifts especially for the ladies! As I know I have been thanked and appreciated by the ladies in my life in the past when I have given them a poinsettia, I love the beautiful reds, suitable for Christmas and they are such hardy plants too and a great centrepiece too. My mum always buys herself one and puts it on her coffee table in her 'best' room and it's very eye catching. I love red myself and yes it does add to the Christmas spirit!

Your such a sweetie! I am seeing so many different colors now days! They are pink, yellow, a greenish yellow (snot) color, and even blue! I think the deep red is still my favorite! One of the stores even put glitter on them this year. i didn't like that too much! It's just not natural :)

Guess I'm an odd ball and I'm ready for this I'm going to have people here boo me for this I am sure. I absolutely hate poinsettias. :-( My ex husband knew this for years and all the years we were married (17) to be excate :-( The year before we divorced he brought home a poinsettia plant that nearly took up the whole kitchen table. In 17 years he never once gave me flowers, so Yes I did have my panties in a knot. I carried the plant to my work place and placed it on the dinning room table and said Merry Christmas enjoy. They all thought I was being thoughtful. hehehe. The staff kept it watered and some even took pictures of it they couldn't believe how big and beautiful it was and I was happy everyone else liked it. I just walked around it when I went to work thinking how great it was I didn't have it on my table.

I love poinsettias but I do not put live ones in the house because my cat eats most every plant I bring in. I do, however, decorate with artificial ones. I do not give them for gifts unless they are artificial. No one feels guilty about pitching fake flowers after the holidays. LOL!

When I was a kid, I gave a couple of poinsettas to my Mom for Christmas. She always enjoyed them, but they die off too quickly, it seems. This year, my husband bought me the first one I have ever had. I have it on my desk so I can look at it while I work.

i would just like to share a little trivia. =) do you know that the colored part we think of as the poinsettia petals are actually leaves? they come in other colors like yellow, orange, pink, etc. the actual flowers are those little things grouped in the center of the leaf bunches.

Poinsettias are gorgeous and I do think that they are great for holiday decorating. However, I have never been able to get one to live long enough past Christmas to warrent spending money on one! I have had several given to me as gifts over the years and appreciated them, but would never buy one for myself or as a gift. I did see a gorgeous light blue one a few weeks ago in Lowes. I had never seen a blue one before! I also have 2 indoor cats and I think I read somewhere that they are poisinous to animals.

I have never gotten or given one. I have heard that they are poisonous if you have small children or pets so most of my family never get them either.. I think my grandmother usually has one in her house.. tell me, do they die after xmas ? or do they last year round ? I dont think i've ever seen one in someones house after xmas, do they just let them die ? maybe you should make a part two to this discussion ;)

I really wanted one this year. Our church has several of them around the front of the stage. I never have bought one or gotten one as a gift, but this year I saw a commercial that made me want one even more. This store sold white and red poinsettias, but apparently they were able to mix it up a bit and were also selling real purple, yellow, and blue poinsettias. I really wanted a blue one!

once before we bought poinsettias for our home. just a small pot of it. cause it is very expensive here in the philippines to buy that. and it is not really part of our tradition to use it during christmas though establishments use that during this season. but not a common thing on households to see. i don't like it that much. just okay though. not bad.
