I have recently come accross some serious health concerns for myself, so I have been doing a lot of research on ways I can naturally boost my immune system. Anyways, I came across this article from 2006, and thought I would share it with you all, so everyone has the information they need to decide if they want to be healthy or not!
10 Ways to Boost Immune Health
Stop cold, flu & depression in their tracks - before you get sick
The weather changes in autumn, cold temperatures set in, and runny noses and sniffles start to seem like an epidemic. Around Hallowe'en, the first snowfall combines with the sugar rush of October 31 to set most of us up for a spate of colds and flu that come and go through the winter. What if, this winter, you discovered a simple way to boost your immune system so you won't get sick? What if there were ten?
People who pick three or more of the suggestions from this list - and stick to them - will substantially improve their immune strength, increase their ability to stay sane and healthy through dreaded cold and flu season, and keep their health and happiness up through the darkest months of the year!
1. Drink your lemons
2. Give your body an herbal boost.
3. Get a full night's sleep.
4. Eat plenty of protein.
5. Drink plenty of water.
6. Stop drinking coffee.
7. Worse yet is the impact of refined white sugar.(If you do only one thing to boost your immune system, eliminating sugar will do the trick.)
8. Stock up on raw fruits and vegetables for their antioxidants, vitamins, minerals, fibre and enzymes.
9. Spend some time out in the cold.
10. Nurture yourself.
If you follow the link I have provided there is a detailed paragraph for each # so you know what it actually entails.
Remember, if you stick to 3 of these steps you will be a much healthier person!

I am amazed - I heard the number one preventive practice is to wash your hands often. At least for colds and flus. The theory being that there are many people around handling things (doorknobs for example) that contaminate every thing they touch. You touch the object, eventually make contact with your eyes or mouth, BANG - you're infected. Washing your hands often (with warm water and soap, rubbing your hands together for a minute) will decrease your chances substantially.

You have a great list there. I like number 7. Refined sugar reduces the immune system as well as making us over weight.
I would add garlic cloves to the list as well. Garlic can kill bacteria on contact. In one study at Boston City Hospital, garlic successfully killed 14 strains of bacteria taken from the noses and throats of children with ear infections.
Yogurt with live cultures help to keep the 500 or so bacteria in the gut in balance. It also helps to build the white blood cells and we know what they do.

thanks alot for the information, the only one that is difficult for me is no.5. I always find it difficult to drink water as much as eight glass as recommended by experts.
but for your number 7 I disagree with that because sugar is also essential for our body even avoided completely may also cause some other sickness in our body but all the same is a good post.1 person likes this

1 bottle of water= 2 of the reccomemend glasses, so you only need to intake 4 bottles of water a day! Maybe that will help
Also, if you eat a piece of fruit every day, you will get all the sugar you body needs! I think your information is a little skewed.
Refined, White sugar, is by all accounts Bad for you! Natural sugar is good for you in moderation, but the sugar this post is talking about never needs to enter your system. I promise you wont get sick if you dont eat refined, white sugar. Just add a piece of fruit to your diet (or even some veggies like carrots) and you will get all you need!
Sorry I think I repeated my self a little, I just dont want anyone to be milsead, or have the worng information. Happy Holidays!!!

That sounds like a good list except that today, I don't think I could spend any more time out in the cold than I did. It was sub-zero with wind blowing, so it was bitter to say the least. Most people that give advice, don't live where I live.
Have you tried any of these out? Do you feel better, stronger? Washing hands often and getting either sunlight or full spectrum light is supposed to be really good, too. Take care.

I just found this list when I posted it, so nothing I do as of yet is due to this list. Although about a month ago I began taking supplements to boost my immune system, and takign fiber. I will try to pick a few things from this list to implement in my daily life.
Btw, getting out in the cold is just a way of suggesting exercise, I dont think it is suggesting to go outside and be miserable, or catch a cold in the bad weather.
I am sorry it is so cold where you are, it is unusually cold here in TX!

I don't think I catch cold in the cold, frostbite maybe.
Another Texan. Lots of you all on here. Minus 7 when my husband got up and minus 5 when I did. What a day! Take care and let us know how your list of ten goes. Sounds like it might help, but I would still wash my hands a lot around people and after shaking hands/hugging during the holidays. Take care and good luck.

that is a great idea full list. just last night my hubby and i were at the grocery store and looking at the vitamins. there used to be a company that made an immune boaster (the maker of greens plus) and it was really good. they took it off the market to 'reformulate it' but it never came back. my issue is that i dont sleep well and thus have a poor immune system.

Yep, you have to get a full nights rest to be able to fight off colds. My boyfriend does not sleep well (and I am against sleepign pills for the most part) So he takes a benadril an hour before he goes to sleep. This helps him stay asleep longer, and helps keep his sinus issues contolled!

Well I have always drank tons of water, and gotten plenty of sleep, but recently I added the vitamins a raw foods (about a month ago) and so far, I have felt like a pretty healthy person! I have no complaints, and am proud of myself for sticking to a daily routine.
I drink at least four bottles of water a day, and thats when I'm not even trying to drink lots of water!

This guide will come in handy. I've always been a sucker for health though sometimes neglecting it is kind of inevitable. I guess i need to skip number 3 because i stay up late all night so it's kind of hard for me to accomplish it. I do take my lemons, mini lemons actually. I drink hot choco more than coffee so i must be doing fine. The rest i am yet to accomplish but it will be easy if i'm determined to stay healthy.

I've got question for you then. Which 3 step did you choose?
I will choose number 3, 5, and, 7! These three is steps the doctor always told me. Get a full night sleep means we can rest our body (muscle and internal organ) well, as well as resting our brain from thinking too hard. Lack of night sleeps will affect your body in bad way. Drinking plenty of water also very helpul. It is good for our metabolism and also for our kidney. Next, eliminating refined sugar will reduce the risk of diabetes!
