What do you do when you answer the door and there are Christmas Carolers singing? Should you tip them, say thank you, or ignore them? We've never had them before, and we just moved to England and I was wondering what I should do if they show up this year. Thanks for the help!

I do not think they do it for money so I wouldnt tip them. It honestly only happened to me once or twice when I was a kid and if I recall we stood there and listened to a song and THEY left right afterwards, not asking for anything. If you really enjoy it, it might be nice to offer them some christmas cookies or something you happen to have... in MI it is SO cold i'd offer them some hot chocolate! Times are changing though and now adays I dont even think I'd open the door.

I would love to have Carolers come to my house. When I was a teenager I used to go caroling with the teens at our church. We would go to shut ins and elderly people. It was a lot of fun walking in the snow and singing. They seemed to enjoy us coming to their house. They would give us cookies and hot chocolate. Just to see their faces was a joy to us. I don't think you have to tip them. If you have any cookies or anything like that, that would be nice but I don't think you have to give them anything but a thank you. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

i live in canada and sort of wish that carolers would come to my house. i would probably offer them a cookie and maybe some juice or maybe a bit of candy. i think it would be nice to offer them something but never having them come to my door, i am not sure what i would do.

That depends on what type of Christmas Carolers, the time they come, and what type of person you are. If it is say, some school/church choir raising money, listen to them and clap on! If the carolers are mean and snotty, or have no talent ignore them. The timing is important, if the carolers are at your house ready to sing when you are reading, doing important work, etc... ignore them. If not, sure go ahead. IT also depends on what type of person you are. If you don't like holiday music, ignore them. For instance, i love music and i am always eager to listen to any music any day. Tipping can be a major issue. Right now, the economy is a little low. A smart advice would be to save some money but it is your decision. I hope you found my comment interesting and helpful.
