Would you move for a job?

During these hard economic times, many people are searching for jobs. Would you move to another state for a job? What about another country? What factors would you consider before making your decision? Perhaps the benefits of the job, the job itself, or the country you would move to. What are your thoughts on this matter?

i would definitely move for a job, especially if i really enjoy my job. At these kind of economic crisis, people should take their jobs more seriously, work harder, show off, make your self stand out. A lot of companies are closing/laid off. So if the job asks you to,, why not

yes..why not?!i would definitely go for it!if the job has many things to offer to me like a dependable salary,a chance for personal growth.etc..i would grab it even if it means moving out of my country or whatever.the benefits of the job certainly matter a lot..times are really way hard now so we cant just be sitting around..we have to look for that job which will help us at least cope with day to day living.

This is a very sensitive topic. I'm sure most of the people are considering over this. The economic recession has a great effect on people's work, including salaries, future, allowances etc. So it seems reasonable to think about changing a job. But there is still one thing we need to notice. That is every one, every company is been influenced by economic ression, not absolutely yourself. Therefore, it may not be a wide decision to change a new job during the recession time. I insist that we should stick to our current jobs, and we should be confident that everything will be fine before long.

Right now I know my job is secure because people will always need healthcare....and with the baby boomers they will need nursing homes...but I am not ignorant to the fact that as people lose work, prices raise and they may not be ableto afford the ungodly amount of rent required of such places that it might eventually hit my area of work. So I plan to get back into school to complete my RN ASAP within the next year or so...because I look at it this way...my job a nurse can do...so if they ever start laying off people it will be the ones on the lower food chain of command. LOL

I just realized I did not even come close to an answer to your questio LOL I do plan on once I get my RN to look into becoming a travel nurse....but I would not relocate to another country for a job. Plus you never know what might happen. I had a relative who moved for a job just to find out after he sold his house in another state and bought a new one in a different state that his job was eliminated by a company who merged with his current employer....and this was before all this crazy work stuff that is happening now. Healthcare and education will always be in demand...all the others...you never know.

Thanks for the comment. I agree, I think that healthcare will always be in demand. I think it is great that you want to travel. It should open a world of opportunities for you when you are finished with your degree and are looking for a position. Best of luck with finishing school!

I would move for a job, but not out of the country. In fact I moved my family to Manila in 1986 and returned to Davao City only in June this year. What are the factors that I will consider so that I will follow a job to a new location? The salary should be higher than that offered by the last job I have, the opportunities for advancement and the challenge should be greater. My wife should also agree to the move.

Perhaps I should refrain from answering this question or giving an opinion on this discussion as I am disabled and will probably remain so for at least for foreseeable future. As such, because I know that I will be able to eat without a job as I'm on assistance, I have never had the fear of not having money coming in to put food in my mouth. However, honestly the benefits of the job would have to greatly outweigh the disadvantage of packing up and moving to another place. I would need to be guaranteed to have the job for a specific period of time, and have the assurance of an increase in pay or some other motivating factor or assurance that I would not pack up and move, only to be laid off one month later. Unless I can be assured of some employment stability I would think I would be better off to take a lower paying job, or a temporary job. Then as I'm working the only place I can, try to look for something better, instead of going through all of the expense and stress of moving. While flipping burgers, or pumping gas may be ridiculed by some, I think that earning $6.00 an hour is better than earning $0. an hour. Start from the bottom, and then work your way up, I personally would not take the risk of moving and then finding myself in the same situation a short time later. That's just my opinion, happy Mylotting!

i have tried working abroad already but i did not move there. for it is a contractual job only. i am willing to take a job even if it far but i will not move my family there. i will just visit them when i have time. i have four children and i am a single mom so i cant just bring all of them if a have a new job on a far place. it is not easy to settle them in a new place then leave them when i am at work.... for me that would be very risky. i would rather leave them where someone can keep an eye on them and visit them when possible. that is my view on this

Thanks for providing this type of discussion, showing that you're very sensitive with the current gloomy economy and the effects from its current situation. First and foremost, before I make move to another state for a job, I have to delve into my level of desperate level. Must ensure that it's in some degree of "take it or leave it". The availability of new job, furthermore does it commensurate my needs. About moving to another country, will also depends on the matter as I have explained in my 2nd. paragraph. To be as an expatriate, working in foreign country doesn't matter me much. As earnings has to take first. You asked me for what factors would I consider before making my decision, of course it includes; job specialization, earning figure, mobility, the industry involved, private life, status, exciting working environment and rewarding. The above four (4) paragraphs is my thoughts on this matter. Again, thank you.

Thanks for all of your comments. You bring up a lot of good points about the type of jobs and the characteristics the job would need to have for you to make the decision.

A decision like this cannot be entered in without giving serious consideration to the pros and cons, The decision is also made harder if you have family as this means you will have to consider the impact on your spouse and children. Issues like how will your spouse handle the situation with her current job ,will she be willing to resign ? or would it be more economical to travel. What about children ,will they be able to handle the transition. Consideration will have to made as to what stage of their educational development. If one feel that he can achieve greater financial remuneration without causing severe displacement issues for his family then I would take the job.

I would move for a job depending on how much more money I'd make somewhere else rather then where I was now. I don't think I would want to go to another country for a job, but if it were a last resort I'd have no choice but to leave the US. I'd have to be able to make a lot more money than where I was, be able to take my whole family, and stay in a safe area.

If I lost my job I would consider relocating. I would consider pay and benefits versus cost of living and average pay for the area. I would consider the school system because my children are still in school and their education is so important. i would think about the climate. I don't mind cold but wouldn't want to live in sub zero temps or in a place the temperature of the sun. I think that if it was going to be a complete culture shock,I would wonder if I could handle it or not. There's alot I would consider but that's not to say in desperate times I wouldn't compromise.

Thanks for the comment. I like your views on the school systems and of course the climate. I would not like to live in sub zero temps either.

I would most definitely move for the right job. Another state would be no big deal to me, though I would like to at least know some people or have some friends in the state that I was going to. Another country, probably not so much. It's not that I don't like the idea, I just don't think I would like to be so far away from my family and friends here.

I have the same opinion. I just do not think that I could stand being that far away from all of my loved ones. Thanks for the post!
