When I say my sister I am not talking about the same one all the time, my father married 3 times. Having said that. One of my sisters rents so where she was living the landlord went up on the rent and she moved over the weekend and I went and helped her. This is an old house that she moved in. The temperature here has gotten real cold and windy at night. Saturday the day she moved was a nice day the temp was in the 70's. By Sunday night the temp dropped to the 20's at night and windy. That is when she realized that the house was cold and wind was coming through the windows. She called me and was telling me about it she said her husband had placed some plastic over the windows which didn't help much. I told her to call the landlord because that was his place to have those windows fixed, well she did, and he said that he did not do that. As in that is not his responsibility , and her husband told her to ask him about caulking the windows, the landlord said he did not want caulk on the windows, he told her to put some plastic over the window. Now what is she suppose to do? Isn't that his responsibility to get those windows fixed?

Hi Chevee, What is your sister suppose to do,live in the cold? and pay rent to this money grabbing landlord?, I think its disgusting to be treated like that, have they got a contract? it should say what the landlord's responsiblities are in there, they should do waht they can to keep the wind and cold out. I wish them all the luck. Hugs. Tamara

I wish I knew what to tell you Chevee but since I don't know what state she's in, I can't give you any advice other than to go to the msn home page and in the search section type in the state she's in and then "renters rights" and you'll be taken to a page full of that subject and maybe you'll find what you're looking for. It's worth a try anyway.

Wow!! This would be a hard thing to deal with for sure. I know that I would do like the others have said and read the Small print and see what your responsibilies etc. are and then go from there. I know that this is an issue so many deal with for sure, and when your hands are tied, it can be a hard thing for sure. That is why no matter which way people decide to act on these days it is always important to Read the Fine Print and know what you are responsible for for sure.

Who ever signs the lease has to take care of the responsiblities. Always make sure when you are planning renting a place that you check everything out before you sign the lease. It will state what are the renters responsiblities and what are the landlords.
