hi! i guess this is very basic why people sleep at night. the same way God made sun to shine at night so that people can freely move at day when there is light. they can do their work when lights are on. i just want to associate the sun as light. then when the lights are off means it is night this is the time that people will sleep and take their rest. imagine it is hard to move and work when lights are off. merry christmas.

That is because it is easier to see during the day and easier to sleep during the night.

While there is a very good reason why we rest better at night I am not going to try to give you a long scientific explanation. Could not if I wanted to. However I can tell you from personal experience that we are not meant to sleep during the day and be up all night. Many years ago I worked third shift computer operations. I managed that shift so held on to it for 3 years. Never did I ever get used to it. Oh you can function but your body just doesn't work as well. Following that three years...when I move to days....I felt like I had just been let out of prison. Everything just seem to work better. You get up when everyone else does...you go to bed when everyone else does and you don't have to shut out the light. Sleeping during the day when everyone else is up and about is very difficult and no matter how you try to shut out the light it just doesn't get it. And I found it strange that during the weekend I could make the transition back to days very easy but not the other way. Some claim to like it but I think it has more to do with the job than when they sleep. As I said...no scientific reason...only from experience.

Sleeping at night, when it is dark, is one of our most primal functions...going back to when man lived in caves. Why be awake when you couldn't see to hunt or to protect yourself? You can retrain your body to be awake during the night and to sleep during the day...those who work the night shifts have done this for years...but sleeping at night is part of our natural rhythm.

Its a complex process. First off, the trees process oxygen mostly at day, at night, they release another substance. The light is a lot better at day and not at night, and our eyes are better prepared for day than for night. Dangerous animals "wake up" at night, and its better to be safe than to take risks out there. Interesting question, you couldn't find that in an encyclopedia? :)

Well... at night it's dark and in the day it's light.. it wouldn't make a lot of sense to be out in the night time doing work and stuff.. and think about people who work outside.. how would they be able to see what they were doing? so i think it's pretty simple as to why we sleep at night and not in the day. we sleep when the lights are off = when the sun goes down and we awake when the lights are on = when the sun comes up... there are people however who sleep in the day and not at night.. usually these people have night jobs that go wee into the morning hours or it's because they are going out and partying
