Alright...I made a Video on my computer, and I put it onto a CD-R for my family to watch on Christmas... The CD plays on the computer but NOT in a DVD player... can someone explain to me how to do this in layman's terms PLEASE?? Thanks!!

I have some very vague ideas based on our usage of a DVD recorder, but someone else will probably answer it more capably than I will. First, while you can use a CD for many uses on a computer, I don't think your DVD player will be looking for video info off a CD - it may require a DVD. Another thing that may be affecting it is I think kind of related to formatting. When we put a DVD rewritable into the DVD recorder, we can keep using it in the recorder and rerecording stuff on it. However, if we want to use it in another DVD player, we have to finalize it, which means we cannot rewrite on it anymore. This probably isn't really helpful - recording is not my specialty, but I am pretty good with cabling. :)

Oh it's pretty helpful... As i mentioned to the previous person... I have done it once. With these CD-Rs too...I think i might be formatting it wrong is all... do you have any idea how to format it correctly? I use RecordNow! To get my stuff onto a CD... i know that once (only once) these CD-Rs played homemade movies on the DVD player... my DVD player is in mint condition I take VERY good care of it and its wires... so it can't be the CD or the DVD player. I've GOT to be formatting it wrong...

Check what kaka said - sounds more intelligent than my response. :) We have a DVD burner on our computer, not that I've used it, so it sounds like possibly a different set-up than you have. All our DVD recording is on the DVD recorder itself and not on the computer.

I am not an expert either but did you save it as data or did you burn it on to the DVD, there is a difference I know in that, unless your DVD, I would think in the way you have put it on the DVD, I hope someone can help you and I might learn as well...

No you have to burn it onto a DVD, I use Nero but I think there are many ways to burn it onto a DVD like if you transfer it to Realplayer, I think you can burn it through that so long as it isn't too big of a clip... Good Luck...

It's because data format is not recognized by DVD players. Usually our computers can recognize more format than the DVD players, the DVD players usually only recognize a few formats only. So, you gotta be aware of this before you burn the CD. I believe when you burn the CD, you can choose "burn a video" or something, right? Just choose that option, but don't choose the Data one.
