How many people on MyLot, be they Danes, Germans, or anything else (please specify) or have another heritage in your family, celebrate on the 24th in the evening?
In my family we do Danish Christmas on Christmas eve, and Canadian Christmas on Christmas day. Tonight we are going to celebrate with our best friend who is German. We are all looking forward to the celebration. It's wonderful that Danes and Germans celebrate almost the exact same way. We're going to take food over to his place and cook dinner there, then open presents and have a few drinks. I'll probably have a bit of a hangover when I go to Dad's tomorrow. LOL

Here in Norway I am getting ready to go to my Mothers place for Christmas celebration. We'll eat around 17:00 - that's when the churches have their bells signal Christmas begins. After dinner we have coffee and chistmas cakes for hours while we open our presents.
Merry Christmas!

That sounds so great! Do you string flags on the tree like we do in Denmark?

Yes, many people do. We've had flags on our tree too, but not the last few years. This year we have mainly angels, bells, and red ceramic and wood ornaments on our tree. We'll probably have flags on our cake. I do not know the english name for it: kransekake. It has 18 rings that we make into a tower of sorts, and pin flags and chocolates on it.

My mom's side of the family is from Russia and my dad's side is French. Us Russians really don't need a reason to drink, it's more like we need a reason not to drink

Our family has always done Christmas celebrating on Christmas morning, but I can remember mom and dad letting us open one package on Christmas Eve one year, but I can't remember why they would have done that just the one year. I know we got up and had a big breakfast together but I can't remember if that came before OR after opening gifts. Probably after, since I'm sure we were so anxious to get the gifts open AND we spent the rest of the day visiting various relatives and eating all day. One neat thing that my mother and one of my aunts did that was quite different was, they had a table cloth that they had visitors sign!! Everyone who stopped by signed their name on it and the year and if they returned another year, they would just write the year on it. Mom would then embroider the letters and numbers on the green cloth tablecloth (my aunt's was red) for the next year, and they had a record of all the guests who had stopped my over the holidays.
