I read in the news today, that Wangari Maathai, the 2004 Kenyan Nobel Peace Prize winner has started a campaign to get people all over the world to plant 1 BILLION trees in the next year to reduce the effects of global warming. Will you plant a tree? What do you think of this effort? Will it be a success? Will it have an effect on global warming?

That is fantastic. I wonder if it was part of this groups project or just randomly. I am glad to see that we can all globally work together on something as important as this. Thanks for responding.

It is a woman that has started the organization...sorry macubx. But that isn't important, what is is that the word about this programs gets spread, so that everyone, every nation, can help by planting trees to reach the one billion mark. Think of how great it would be for the environment and for us as human beings. Let's concentrate on something that is living and life giving, instead of warring and killing.

hi,really very good thinking of growing plants in large scale...it is necessary to all over the world to reduce GREEN HOUSE GASES..pollution..Every body should feel their responsibility to plant 1 tree atleast..Govt.should also take initiation along with volunteer organisations..

I agree. This initiative should receive more coverage so that people from everywhere are aware of the program, and the governments should help to promote this woman's organization's efforts.

I agree that one person alone cannot do this. But if we all spread the word and do our own part, the we can exact change on a global level. Thanks for your reply.

I do believe it will be a success and have a good impact. care2.com has a group called Forest Across America .. Anyone who is interested in participating in that group as well is invited. Planting Trees equals MORE Oxygen, and less green house gasses cooler air cooler atmosphere less storms and hurriances. So Plant Plant Plant the trees... and we will sucessfully help reheal and nourish our planet, as well as ourselves.
