Do you have any idea? The only thing I came to know is that it is an eight days light festival celebrated during this time around. If its a global festival then how come we hear mostly of Christmas and not this. Mylot is a big community so I would like to ask how many of you know about it. How many of you celebrate it? What is the origin/story of this festival?

Hanukkah is an eight-day Jewish holiday. Ritual is to light a single light(candle) each night of eight nights. I really don't know the origin of Hanukkah but I only know that is connected with some history facts like that Jews were killed in some temple 250-200 BCE. And so on. Maybe I am wrong

Well, it is a Jewish festival of lights. It is celebrated at the same time as Christmas, but it has nothing to do with Christmas. Hanukkah is celebrated because the light in an oil lamp stayed lighted even though the oil was all gone. So it was thought to be a blessing from God. That's about all I can remember of the significance of this Jewish holiday. More information can be had by reading the Bible (Old Testament) about the miracle of the lamp. Today, Hanukkah is celebrated as a children's holiday.
