Happy Chanukah!

Hello Everyone! I am Jewish and it's gonna be the 5th nite of Chanukah tonite. Usually a delicious potato pancake called latkes is eaten. And the candles are lit to celebrate my people's triumph over the Syrians when they destroyed our temple and the bravery of the Maccabees; a tribe that many Jews descend from. Usually everyone asks me if I am "getting ready for Christmas," or says with a smile and gleam in their eye,"Merry Christmas,Happy Christmas." It is true that Jews in America make up only 4% of the population. However, when I hear someone wish me a Happy "Holiday" I actually wish them one back. It's nice to know that some people realize that there are people out there that don't celebrate Christmas. This year, instead of getting annoyed when someone assumes that I'm of the same religion they are, instead I smile and tell them what nite of Chanukah it is and that I will be lighting my candles at dusk and eating latkes by candlelight. After I say this, it's like hearing a pin drop. I can guarantee they probably don't know what latkes are and some believe it or not, have never heard of Chanukah. I have an online friend from the UK who has never known a Jew or heard of Chanukah. I thought he was kidding. So, if there are any Mylotters out there who "get their Jew on" and light the Menorah, hears a shout out to y'all. I think if I meet anyone today(clerks, customer service people, etc.)who wants to wish me the usual greetings involving Christmas I am going to tell them that my Chanukah Bush is aflame and I have to run.
