Eating in public

How many of you eat different when alone and in front of people? Somehow I feel uncomfortable eating in public, especially if it's someone I don't really know. Not that I burp, slurp or do other unmentionable things lol,I just don't know what to do with my hands or where it's appropriate to look etc. Thank God,it rarely takes me more than 5 minutes to finish a meal! Cannot call myself an extremely busy person but I've been notorious for eating on the run and have been promised stomach problems so many times it's hard to remember all.

I used to feel the way you do now specially during traveling in train. Probably because I was very shy. But that was a long time ago. I am not that shy any more and I have no problem eating in public.

It's not just being shy,it's also being considerate. How would you feel if you embarked on a 10-hour flight and the person next to you started to eat some especially smelly onion rings bough at the airport? lol That's the reason my brother never took food with him when he was travelling city he worked at. The bus only made a few stops and he felt bad eating the good stuff when everyone else was starving.

Since I rarely eat out these days, I probably have developed some bad habits but I don't think they would carry over into a public situation. I wonder about you taking only 5 minutes to eat a meal. Not only is it not all that good for you, but eating so fast in public might be considered a little impolite by some. It is hard for me to imagine someone eating a meal that fast and maintaining good table manners. But not having been there maybe you have perfected the art and no one really notices.

I'll admit I'm a bit sloppy when I eat at home, and of course will be less sloppy in public, most of the time. I guess it depends on the situation, if it's fast food I'm not going to be overly polite about how I eat or anything. If it's a nice restaurant though, I'll use my best table manners.
