The day after Christmas December 26th, will you start taking down your Christmas decorations? I didn't put up any decorations this year, in the previous years I would always take my decorations down the day after Christmas because I would always have to go back to work on the 27th, depending on what day of the week it falls on if it was the weekend then I would go back the following Monday. When are you taking your decorations down?

in my home city, we don't take down the decorations until after the third sunday of january. that's because after Christmas our city still celebrates the feast day of the Sto. Nino or the young boy Jesus. it's not a rule to keep the decorations till after the end of the celebrations but it has somehow become an unwritten rule for many families in the city

I only put up a few decorations this year so I don't have much to put away but, traditionally, I would take down the decorations on New Year's Day. Taking them down the day after Christmas just seemed like such a waste! They aren't up very long as it is and, usually, there is a lot of work that goes into putting up the decorations, so I liked having them up just that one extra week.

Our little tree - Having not had much Christmas spirit this year, we didn't buy a real tree, so I put up this little fiber-optic tree instead. It's cute and real easy to put away! LOL
We very much 'simplified' decorating this year. Normally, we'd have a big, REAL Christmas tree but, this year, we opted for this little fiber-optic tree that I had inherited from my mother last year. Cute, huh?

I love those fiber optic tress! So pretty! I have a little one, too, and tried to go with that this year, but between my daughter playing with the ornaments, and my youngest two cats still being kittens, it kept falling over! SO I put up a normal size tree. I usually take things down around the 1st, or about a week later, depending on my mood that year.

Hi Chevee, I always take my down of the 6th January, 12 days after Christmas, my belief is if you take them down before its bad luck, its the old tradition. Hugs. Tamara

There is nothing in my house that would remind anyone of Christmas because it is just me and my mother and 58 cats! Through the years we've tried putting up things for Christmas but the cats would only mess them up, so we gave up! We don't even have REAL house plants, in case the cats tried to eat them and get poisoned, so all our plants are the silk kind! They look just as good as the real ones and if and when a cat messes with them, we just pick the plants up, shake them and brush them off and they look just as good as new! One year we put up a big pretty Christmas wreath above our door (inside) so we could see it and think of Christmas, but the next morning it was on the floor with 4 cats sleeping in it! (It was funny)! How they got it down, we'll never know! In case you are all wondering why we have so many cats, it's because we run a cat rescue but also half of these cats are ours, they are the ones nobody wanted, ones like: blind or half blind, 3 legged ones, ugly or scarred ones, hairless ones or half bald ones, deformed ones, ones with bad tempers etc. etc..

Sounds like the cats are running the place xbrendax, I bet they are a handful.. That is a great job that you and your mother are doing.. I say this because one of the best dogs that I ever had was one that someone had put out on a cold rainy night, she was eat up with fleas, fur soaked to the skin and matted and for some reason she only had one eye.. She was so pitiful, for about 10 minutes or so after I got her, I gave her a warm bath, blowdried and brushed and then fed her, she then fell asleep on my lap in the rocker, after that she was mine for life.. She was one of the best dogs that anyone could have ever asked for.. God doesn't make junk even in our furry friends..

I like to leave them up until after the New Year at least. Reading through this, I see that I'm not the only one who didn't decorate as much as usual, so it won't be as much to put away this year! I was sick for the beginning of December, and then just decided enough was enough. Sort of a bah-humbug mood this year! :/

I can't stand my tree anymore. It was up the week before Thanksgiving so I'm kind of tired of it (lol)! Being Cuban, we celebrate "Los Reyes Mago" which is the three kings. It's on January 7th and it's like a Cuban Christmas so many latin families keep the tree around for that occasion. I will not. I will probably start taking stuff down tomorrow as soon as the last few gifts have been distributed.

Oh, that is too soon for me. Even from a child, we would always leave the decorations up until after New Years. Usually by the fifth or sixth of January. I remember one year in my neighborhood, the outdoor decorations were out until April, and that was because we had such a cold winter that everything was frozen or snowed under. Boy, that really was some winter, we had at least twelve feet of snow. My husband put our little artificial tree up on the day before Christmas, so we will probably take it down the week end after New Years.

In my house, decorations go up the day after Thanksgiving and come down on New Year's Day. We like to start the New Year with things in order around the house

We didn't put any up since our sons don't understand Christmas (they're both Autistic and don't understand what is going on) and we always go to someone else's house for dinner and presents. This is the first year we've actually been home (my husband recently got out of the Navy and we moved back to where our families live) but we just didn't feel up to decorating. My inlaws had all of their stuff down Christmas evening. We had Christmas at their house on Christmas eve, so they didn't have any company on the actual Christmas day. Since we all went to my sister's house this year, my parents didn't decorate, either. My mom said that since no one was going to be there except her and my dad, what was the point? It sounds sad now that I put it in writing, but it seemed to make sense when we talked about it. :(

I hsd veen sick with some kind of flu bug for almost a month before Christmas so I took the lazy way out amd just put up the fibre optic tree. I didn't put up any decorations but put all the Christms cards - (65 of them) on a door and the wall in the conservatory. They will all come down on Jan 6th. Will probably start taking the cards down on the 5th.

I will be leaving them up until New Years Eve and might also try and have a party on that night.. I am planning one for close friends and family, if I can get enough of them together to do it.. Then on New Years Day, I will take everything down and pack it away.. Don't skip the decorations next year chevee, it is a bad habit to get into and can only get more and more depressing for you.. I hope the new year brings you a great job..

We usually put Christmas decorations two weeks/a week before Christmas (depends on time and mood), and get them down certainly not before New Year, or even the week after. That again depends on time and on how the tree holds, this year it's loosing a lot of needles so it probably won't last till the week after New Year.
