There are times when i had to type with one hand because i got food on the other lol! I work pretty fast with computers so i don't want any idle time passing by. I type with one hand with decent speed only to the words i frequently type like my username and password. How about you?

Well let's see, I am typing this post with only one hand to test it out and although I am pretty accurate it is quite slow compared to my usual speed. I know that for some people who prefer or need to type one-handed there are special layouts. One just mirrors the right half of the keyboard when you press shift I think, which I have heard is pretty intuitive to use and quick to learn for a normal typist. There are also one handed Dvorak layouts but I don't know much about them.

Hmm.. that's great information! You typed that with one hand? Wow, you typing is more accurate than me typing with both hands lol! I guess i need to practice more on accuracy first than typing with one hand lol!

I think I am one of the lucky persons who can type with one hand pretty fast. I learned to type using a manual typewriter. Possibly this helped me to hone my skills in typing even with one hand. Even now due to an injury I am typing with my left hand even though I am not left handed. With the injured hand at the keyboard my typing speed is actually hampered. all the best, rosdimy

Oh yeah, manual typewriter is pretty tough! They got hard to press keys and we need to push a little deeper to key in a character. It's like weigh training for our fingers hehe..

I have a friend DJ who's got only one arm that's whole, and the other one's only down to her elbow. So I guess she can type with one finger fast enough

I never had to do that before so typing this sentence with one hand should give me an idea of how fast that goes... Erm, reasonable considering it was only one hand but definatly a lot slower than typing with two hands. Especially the syllables would get tricky with the holding down of the shift-key with only one hand at use. If I had to, I could work it. But God forbid you have to do a full paper with just one hand... yikes!

It didn't even come to mind that ctrl+alt+delete would be a major problem, lol! You are so right about that. There are two shirt keys though; both on the left and on the right, so I guess there would be a way to figure out which side to use for which keys .

The most difficult would be is when we need to type control alt delete lol! I can manage to key in characters that needs the shift key but only on the left part of the keyboard. It's pretty hard when i have to press shift key on the right with characters on the left.

my typing speed normally is really fast though i never learnt how to type ever..... just loved to type so got faster while practising every day on dad's lapto[ from younger years..... now i have my own laptop and for a while i sit and reply to posts here but then i start feeling tired so i tend to lie down..... and thats when i start typing with one hand...... while i relieve the other of pain as i am propped up on my elbows.... and i have realised that i am faster with my left hand rather than my right though i am a righty...... i really wonder why..... butnow again with a lot of one hand typing i am getting faster every day... though now in this response i wanted to type faster so i got up and sat.... :P

I can't possibly do it, typing with one hand. I'll be very slow and maybe make lots of mistake. I am used to blind typing with both my hands and even with my eyes close I still can figure out where the alphabets are but not with one hand, I'll be handicapped.

Hmmm, as a then programmer, I never liked one-handed typing but well, motherhood can be demanding at times. Now I type one-handed because I have to make my baby sleep in the other arm. I think I'm pretty fast at typing with a single hand now. I attribute it to the fact that I memorize the location of the letters in the keyboard

Hi modstar, I can type fast on my right hand. In my work before i am a encoder and i do type numbers from 8 am to 5 pm everyday, i can do it with only one hand. Hehehe. Even if i dont look on the keyboard i can still do it correctly. But cannot do that on the letters for i have look at the letter before typing.

Haha, I can type fast with my left but only with letters. It's pretty hard for my left hand to be reaching that numpad to type in, much more without looking.

I have to say that I am not very good a typing with one hand. I wish I was better because I could multi task even more. I can do it, but my speed is reduced quite a bit. I have also types with food in my hand but I find that I loose a lot of speed. I normally take a bite and then type for a while and go back to the food lol. Maybe, in time, my typing with one hand will improve. Practice makes perfect.
