Hi everyone. I am hoping that someone can help me. For a while now, my cd rom drive won't work. I checked out the hardware and it it says it is fine. I just got some pics on a cd from walgreens and I went to look at them, and nothing happens!!!! I am very upset. If nothing is wrong, why won't it work?? Could it be dirty?? My cd burner won't work either. I viewed pics about a month ago and it was fine. What is going on??? Please someone help!! By the way, it is a emachines computer.

Another asect which should be looked at is the CD player/burner. Old players tend to lose their abilty to read CDs especially cheap CDs. For some reason the use of cheap CDs tend to hasten a CD player's demise. You may have noticed that quality CDs tend to be thicker. Apart from checking the CD on another working player, check the player with a CD which can be read using another player. If the problem persists, it is time to replace the player. This suggestion is made based on experience. By theway do you know that CDs have a relatively short life span? all the best, rosdimy

i guess first you should put some other cd that you think is fine into you cd rom and try to open it.If it is working fine then i guess your cd with photos is having a prolem or is being corrupt. If not then try some more cd's still if you are not able to open then its definitely your cd rom that is not working.Den you should do the following: 1)if you have a lens cleaner den try to run it on cd rom.If your cd rom's lens is dirty den it will get cleaned and it will again work properly. Still not working 2)Then i guess take it to the vendor Ya try your cd that is having photo's to your friend place also. This will sound wired but try to check the cd-rom's connection also.

Have you tried another disc that used to play in this computer? Try to use other types of disc like audio and movie. Try to check your device manager and see if you can find any error on the cd rom drive.

If you're sure that the cd works fine then you should clean your driver. But it's curious that your cd burner doesn't work as well - I guess you should also check if you're burning cd or dvd, and what your driver is.

the problem might be the cd itself. try using another cd, if it works then that cd doesnt work .

Hi Katrhina, It is not the cd. I have tried almost every cd I have and none of them work. I think it is the cd rom. I was able to run the cd through the cd burner and it worked then. So nothing is wrong with the burner. I guess I will have to try cleaning the cd rom. If that dosent work, then I know its the rom.

Try to take the cd rom to some other computer and try to check it if it works them your CD drive is working fine. Try with another CD and see if it is working fine. As you said that cd is a old one i think it had got scraches and it may be unusable. Generally CD-Drives are good and they won't get damaged easily so i think the main problem is with the CD which you are using.

If your cd rom is fine then there might have a problem with the cd. How long have you not used your CD ROM? Or perhaps, the cd had already scratches that's why it cannot be read by the system or a software to open the cd is missing. What you should do is try to use other PC because there are times that PC's also choose. If it doesn't work, then the cd might have been destroyed. That's why in cases like this, you should always have a back up file.

I once met the same problem as you did. There was something goes wrong with my CD-ROM. No matter what kind of CD i put into the disc, it didn't work. That troubled me a lot. Later, I got someone to help me. He checked the CD-ROM and found it had broken down. So I bought another CD-ROM and abandoned the first one, then, it worked perfectly. Maybe you should think of buy a new CD-ROM.

That is a thought. But i don't have the money right now. Besides, if it is the CD-ROM I think I will wait till I get a new computer. This one is to old I think to install one. It is a 2001. So its been around for a while.

Your cd might have scratches. You can try one thing out, put some perfume on the CD and then gently clean it with a tissue paper. I have tried this because one of my friend have adviced me to, and sometimes it works. If it does not work then i think there is no way that it will work. Try it on some other computer as well, may be there is something wrong with your CD ROM. I hope this will work out for you. Be happy

I did try several cds and none of them worked. I will try to install the cd burning software again and see if that works. I never thought of that. Where would I get a cd lens cleaner? Thanks
