How did your Christmas go?

Christmas Eve, I tried to get lots of my cooking done and also get my gifts all wrapped. I'm usually up late on Christmas Eve to wrap gifts, but I was determined not to do that this year. I did lots of washing, cleaning house, and running the lawnmower, helping my husband get the yards clean before Christmas. AND, then the back pain started in!I hurt so bad, I could hardly do anything Wednesday night. And then the cooking problems started. I put on a new chocolate pound cake recipe I had found in The Taste magazine. I should have known better. I should have used my own tried and true recipe, but this one was a little different and had a frosting. My husband even went out in the hard rain and storm to get me a box of cocoa and butter. And, then, the cake fell! I was so upset! I put my ham on to bake at midnight . Then, I had to quit wrapping gifts and go to bed, hoping my back pain would be gone by morning. I got up at 7:15, took my ham out of the oven and put on my turkey brea&t. I began to get everything else put on the stove. I made the bed, did some last minute things, and then went to get my Mother who is 91 and doesn't drive anymore. By the time I got back here at home, my back was once again paining so bad I could hardly stand it. But I managed to finish my cooking, and just kept taking Ibuprofen or Extra Strength Tylenol to null the pain. When it came time to eat, I could hardly sit still and didn't enjoy my meal at all. One of the grandkids sort of made a joke about hearing about my back pain. I told him, if he was in the shape I was in, he probably wouldn't even have been here. We managed to eat and then open gifts. And that was done in agony as well. Later, after all the kids and grandkids had left, I had to take my Mother back home. It was pouring down rain and my back ached the entire way. I got her home, fixed her a plate and sat down to talk to her awhile. I also took 2 more Tylenol. My younger brother came in and while we sat and talked, my back began to feel better. But I wasn't alone in pain. He was also having major back pain. He's had 2 back surgeries and anything hurts his back, but he couldn't manage to kill the pain any yesterday even with strong pain medication. I came back home and sat around awhile. But the pain began to come back, so I went to bed! I figured I'd get up this morning hurting again. But, lucky me, I had no pain, that is until about 2 hours ago! I quickly took 2 Ibuprofen and the pain is gone. I have no idea what I have done to aggravate my upper back like this. I know I did do some mowing on Wednesday, but I've done that before and never any pain like this. I do know I have spent one miserable Christmas holiday in pain. I'd love to know it won't be here for New Year's.

I sure hope your back pain will subside and not be around for New Years. In this post, I will say a little prayer for you. I Don't know how you believe, but most people do believe in prayer. Dear, Lord, This day, please relieve the back pain this woman suffers. If it can be your will, let let leave her and never return again. We know that you are able to do more for us than any man or woman or pill, increase our faith and teach us your will as we walk through this life on our way to eternal life.

Thanks, Fairydew. I've actually got through today without any back pain whatsoever! But I've been careful what I do. I hope it is gone for good. Thanks for the prayer. And I do believe in prayer!

Sorry you had such a hard time of it mate. I had a houseful of visitors expected and lots to do right up untill they arrived. The Monday before Christmas I just could not make a start. I was lethargic, sleepy, in pain in all my joints and muscles and I just could do nothing...so I let myself have a break. Tuesday, I was full of beans and got heaps done and continued to do well throughout the festivities. I'm suffering with the heat and fall asleep within a short time of sitting down but otherwise I still feel pretty good. I hope 2009 is a great year for you.

Sounds like you've had your share of sickness this Christmas season, too. Hope you are feeling much better and no after effects from the New Year festivities.

Sorry you didn't have the Christmas you wanted. This can be a depressing time of year. I know my husband always wishes he could just skip Christmas since it's hard to buy for everyone what you want to buy. And you are afraid someone won't understand. But it went very well this year and they actually got more than they expected. I do hope your next Christmas is everything you want in the day.

I think you just over did it. I know my back starts to hurt after awhile of wrapping, because it's hard to find a comfortable position for that. You have to bend and twist and reach and lift in all sorts of weird positions. Add to that your cleaning which required a lot of reaching, leaning, lifting, bending... Then the cooking, bending to put things in and out of the oven. And of course the medication you took masked the pain so you did a bit more of the bending, stretching, lifting, etc. Get plenty of rest between now and New Year's and hopefully the pain will not come back. Also try not to over do it. My Christmas was okay. We spent lots of family time together, playing with the kids toys and stuff. We don't do that as often as we should. Having the in laws over wasn't much fun, but I was able to grit and bear it. Hubby and I ended up in a huge fight that night, because we were both going on only 3 hours of sleep. But other than that it was pretty good.

I didn't think I had done enough to be overdoing, though. I think the mowing started it off since I had already worked in the house 1/2 a day. And I was bending and twisting on the mower, going back and forth backwards to throw the leaves into a big pile for my husband to pick up. That probably set it off. I'm going to try and avoid doing anything that might aggravate it this weekend. I have my two grandsons here, and I don't know when they will be going home. One has basketball practice Monday afternoon and he has to go home before then. The other one has a night soccer game next Friday, so he could stay awhile.

The christmas is always a special occasion and as usual it was great. Though I was away from my family so I was missing them . Otherwise the things were good. I had a good time and had a very good lunch. Then went out with friends.

Hi Barb, Sorry to hear about your back being so painful. Hopefully it won't be like that for the New Year. Christmas went pretty good for us. We usually have a Christmas breakfast every year. This year because of all the snow, it was iffy because I told my kids that if the roads were too bad, to just stay home and be safe. Well, they showed up a little later and we still had breakfast. Once everyone was fed we opened gifts and watched the kids enjoy their stash. Everyone was in a good mood, being thankful for the way things are these days. After everyone left, I put on a goose to roast for dinner. This was my first experience with a roasted goose. I am very happy to say that I thoroughly enjoyed dinner. My husband is not too fond of wild meat, but he said it was not too bad. Just not something he would go out of his way to get. LOL All in all the day itself was very enjoyable. I even got a nap in between breakfast and making dinner. LOL Have a very Happy New Year!
