holiday vs birthday

we have several family members that i am sure feel they have been ripped a few times over the years by the fact that their birthdays fall somewhere really close to Christmas. I have a brother in law and great niece that are the 26th, my Mom the 28th, a daughter on the 21st and others i simply can not remember. I wondered how families address the birthdays with Christmas either just starting or just finishing. Do you add a gift under the tree and say "Thats your B-day gift? Do you have a seperate party even though Christmas eve is the next day or just passed yesterday? We try and keep them seperate and have parties for each. the gifts are perhaps not as big but a nice cake and the recognition of their birthday being as important as any other, no matter when is something special for them. make "their" day specail as it is and should be. I think it is what you would want if your b_day fell so close to a huge holiday. Just wondering...

i have a nephew whose birthday is on the 24th. there is always a party for his birthday but most of the time he receives one gift only. even his godparents wouldnt give him two gifts. the only advantage is that his parents and everybody has money to get him a present and there would always be a celebration ..

you do make a great point. No matter how Poor we seem to be all year, we do seem to find unbelievable amounts of "extra" cash at Christmas so the chance of getting a b-day gift is a bit higher. Thanks for the input. Always, Darrel

My grandmother's birthday was December 22. I don't know what happened when she was young. From when I can remember, we always took her a cake & a special gift the weekend before her birthday & then we went back on Christmas & gave her her Christmas gift. I know we always had a hard time finding her a birthday present & a Christmas present so close together. My birthday is 5 days before valentines Day & only about 6 weeks after Christmas so I find people tend to ignore my birthday!!! My Mom always made sure it was a special day for me!!! Now that she's gone, I guess I'll take myself out for MY day!!!

I understand. Today we will go in to my mom and dads and have a cake and ice cream for her to celebrate her b-day. I can't help but wonder though how different her gifts might be if I had not just droppeed 1000.00 on Christmas. Darrel
