whats the significance of the ranking in various sections and rating??

can someone tell me whats the significance of the ranks that you get in various sections also what does rating signify. does having a good rank and rating means get you better earnings or is it just a parameter for quality of your work??

Hey thanks for start this discussion, I also wondering what effect in our earning of ranking our answer,because sometimes I just ranking the answer from my discussion because sometimes I have trouble the speed in mylot its slow very, so I can't able to answer all the comment of my friends so i simply rank them to acknowledge they answer... But I'm not sure if they notice that
