My Golden Retriever has a special problem which he apparently was born with and no one seems to know what to do about it, not even the Vet because he ordered a very expensive thyroid test on him thinking that that might be the problem. It wasn't. Actually, his condition bothers us more than it does him as there is not an abnormal amount of scratching associated with it. He has very dry skin which flakes excessively like an extreme case of dandruff. Brushing him really brings it out and makes his coat look awful. When we have him bathed professionally with medicated soap, he looks good, but they have to use a vacuum cleaner on him during brushing. Does anybody have any ides that might help him?

My Golden Retriever is 8 years old, Zoey, she started flaking lately to where i can vaccum her and its just keeps coming out, So I started researching it and what I found that Yeast in some of the dog food does this. So I switched to Nature's Recipe, (No corn, wheat or beef, No By-products or fillers, no artificial preservatives) Im going to try this and see if it works, also I started washing her with and oatmeal/tea tree ol infuser, and started her on fish oil pills... So I will let you know if it helps.

Hi singout. I give my dogs lots of evening primrose oil and/or fish oil and it stops the dandruff you describe it takes a while and is an ongoing treatment for the life of the pet and I give one capsule morning and night. Also avoid hard brushing for a while but a soft brushing every day will help stimulate the oil/hair folicles and also bath once a month only to avoid stripping the natural oils from the skin. hope this helps

Thank you so much for the response DILLIGAF. I will certainly take that suggestion seriously and will give it a try. We do give him fish oil everyday. Now we have something else to try. Thanks again.

hi singout...he could be lacking something in his diet. he may need supplements. if you have ruled out allergies, parasites, and fungus. what a dog eats has a big affect on his health.
