Why have a camera if you don't take it with you?

It seems like everywhere we went this Holiday season we forgot to take our camera. We went to my mother's Christmas Day, forgot the camera. That same day - while we didn't have the camera - we went to my inlaws. Over the weekend, we went away with a cousin, forgot the camera. Sunday, we went to my step-mothers for Christmas, forgot the camera. Last night, went to my mother's again for birthday celebrations, forgot the camera. Why do I even have a camera if I can't remember to take it with me anywhere??? We missed some great photo ops this past week. I'm tempted to just leave it in the car so we'll always have it! Of course then it wont be charged when we need it... Maybe putting a note on the door so I see it every time I walk out - Do you have the camera?

That's awesome that you take your camera with you. I try so hard to get in the habit of taking it with me all the time, but I usually forget...

I used to have to remind my husband to take along the digital camera, but he kept saying, "we don't need it." He is into taking photos of the family, while me, I would think "what lovely scenery" and I wish we had it with us. So now I take the camera with me when we go someplace. So what you have to do is to find someone in your family who loves to take photos no matter what and get him or her in charge of the camera. If not, put it in the car and be sure to lock it. Maybe put a list on the fridge telling you "Don't forget the camera@"

I'm the one in the family that likes to take the pictures, so a lot of time everyone depends on me and they leave theirs behind. I think after this past week they'll bring their own more often...

It's funny you mentioned making a note, that is exactly what I have to do to remind myself of things I need to take along with me because I too usually forget the camera. I even have to make a note to charge the battery also.

i have a dslr, so can't just drop it in my purse, lol. but my camera stays fully charged and ready to go every time i walk out the door. i went to texas for two weeks for christmas, and have taken approximately 1600+ pictures! so i have a lot of editing to do when i get home, lol. and thats not counting the last leg of our trip today, back to my daughters, we drove 14 hours yesterday. but it's all worth it, i hadn't seen my family in 2 years, and hopefully it won't be that long until my next visit, but you never know.

We do the same thing. Miss out on some great pictures, though both of our cell phones have cameras the we end up using, the quality is not very good at all, and is almost just a waste of space. I suppose the best idea would be to get a car charger and/or an extra battery pack for the camera, so it can be left in the car and still have power as well.

I do have a car-charges for my camera battery, but with my luck I'd leave it in my husbands car and we'd take mine somewhere! Sometimes I can't win...

I know, I keep thinking maybe I should buy one of those little cameras just to keep with me all the time. But I really can't see spending that kinda money for something so frivolous.

Hmm... good point. That has happened to me before, placing something I didn't want to forget in the car, just to remember it when we are out on the road in the van! This is how people end up with multiples of things and then wonder why they do...

I get really annoyed if I forget to take the camera with me to certain places too. I now try and always carry mine in my handbag - that way whenever I go out it is always with me! With regards to it getting charged - if you keep it in your bag, charging it is fairly convenient as it is inside the home

I usually have it on the charger all the time. If we're going to be gone for more than a day, I take the portable charger with us - if I remember the camera...

*Hangs head in shame* People, for the love of whatever you believe in, if you have a camera, take it with you where ever you go because you never know when that camera will come in handy. My mother and I both have digital cameras. Mine in a HP and my mother's is a Sony, and we have been using those cameras like there is no tomorrow. We use them everywhere we go.

I KNOW I KNOW I KNOW!!! I have just got to work out a system that reminds me to take the darned thing with me!!! I am very fortunate that some of the pictures that I do have are "last" pictures and I cherish them. I'm usually afraid that I'm going to miss one because I forgot the darned camera!

I have a different problem: I have a compact digital camera that I can easily carrry with me everywhere, but I often don't take it out to take pictures. Sometimes I forget I have the camera; other times I don't use it (like at family gatherings) because once I pull it out I'm occupied with setting up and taking pictures, rather than enjoying being with company.

It is so true that once you start taking the pictures you kinda miss what's really going on. I just would like to have a few "memories" sometimes...

Hi. I always pick up my camera and take it with me everywhere. Even if I am just going to the corner store, I take my camera. You never know when a good photo opportunity might happen. I make money with my pictures and this is a great way to always get that photo. I have made it a habit to always look around everywhere and find photo opportunities that would make a selling photo. You can submit your photos to lots of places and they will pay you for them, so take that camera with you.

Mine is pretty bulky so it's hard to take with me everywhere. Last summer I missed some great nature shots because I didn't have my camera.

I keep mine in my purse but I noticed that you said that you could not do that. I take tons of pictures. My cousin got married and I think that I actually took more pictures than the photographer. Anyways. If you do not have small children you could hang it on the door knob and then when you go to leave you will feel it and see it and hopefully not forget to take it off the door handle.

I just might have to try that one! Of course my son (who's 25) would think I put it there to put it away. He'd take it back upstairs where it belongs...

Your not the only one who does that, I'm always forgetting my camera, we had a wonderful day with friends and family on Christmas Eve, did I have my camera, no I didn't. I have no excuse for not having it, I just keep saying I forgot my camera. My husband just rolls his eyes at me, I never have it, I think I even made sure the night before that all my batteries were charged up, but I just walked out the door the next day and didn't even give it a thought..lol. I've had it a few years, I like it, it takes good pictures. I might as wells not even have one, I don't use it. I may need to do what you do, write myself a note, but knowing me, I'd probably forget to write a note...haha.

I usually forget to write my notes too! I think sometimes I'm too excited about where I'm going, I just forget all the important stuff! Sad thing is that I usually know I'm forgetting something, I just don't realize it's the camera until it's too late :-(

Maybe subconsciously you really don't want to be bothered taking pictures.

I do that all the time!! You're in good company. If it's not the camera, it's the camcorder! Aggravating!

I was just thinking the same thing. I bought me a digital camera for the holidays and took a couple of pictures. I keep forgetting to take it with me to places I would like to take a few pictures as these things are changing in my life and I will not be there anymore. I need to remember this weekend because it will be my last. I am so sorry you forgot the camera for the holiday. Hopefully some of your relatives weill get prints for you of their shots. I am having the same problem.

My family has been posting their pics so I can "steal" them as I want. It's kinda neat though because when I'm taking them I'm not in them. Now I have pictures of me!

You know I do that too, told hubby I need to buy one for in the vehicle, that way it will be there. I have missed some great shots forgetting my camera. I dont know why as I love taking pictures, it is rather a hobby, yet I only seem to remember it when we go on trips and stuff. I find another problem is finding the time to print them out and stuff. I have thousands of them in my computer that I keep meaning to get to.

I don't print many of mine out. I do need to organize them a bit on the memory cards so that I can play them in groups on my photo frame.

I have a camera (camcoder) so that I could record my PC screen and sell that to the people which are craving to earn money online. Also, my real camera is too big (for professionals) to fit in my knapsack and it's also dangerous to expose it outside so I decided NOT to bring it.

Yes we have a digital camera and out problem is not bring it because we remember to do that we just forget to carry a new or change the batteries. When we get to where we are going and start taking pictures the camera reads low battery and of course we do not have any extras at the time.

I used to have that problem until I started doing jobs that required photo's to document the report. After forgetting my camera once and going all the way to the location I learned to always take my camera no matter where I was going. It became a regular thing in my purse just like my wallet and car keys.

Yeah, I think if money was involved it would be a bit of an incentive to keep a camera handy!

I am always annoyed with myself when I forget to take a camera out. I now have a digi SLR which is too big to go in my bag, so sometimes I just can't be bothered to take it. But I really do like to have one with me all the time, and find myself cursing because there's a great shot opportunity and I don't have it there.

Yes, it's a drag that I miss some good shots, but I'm lucky that others had cameras this past week and I can see their pics online :)
