How will you call your friends casually..i have heard words like dude and buddies being called in english speaking countries..but in India we have a different variety where they call friends by names like mama, machan(brother in law),dhosth(friend),bhaiyya(brother).these are the four words which are used by a average young man to call upon his friends..do you have any different words like these? if please let us know?

We usually call each other in our friends circle with our nicknames and else with names if the person doesn't have any nickname(that's a rare case!)...Like Shreya becomes Shrek!

For fun we call our girlfriends 'gaga' which means exactly what you think it does - it means crazy girl. But we say it with all the love in the world. It's not degrading when girlfriends use it with each other - it's like being yourself with everyone and forgetting about manners and all that. I guess it can be explained like how some people call their friends 'b1tch' but they don't really mean it:) Thanks for the response on my discussion!

My REALLY close friends I call them by their nicknames, and sometimes their petnames. As for my other friends, I usually call them by name, and casually refer to them as "dude", or "girl" if she's a lady. Funny thing is, in our group, there are people who gets branded with whatever crazy thing/situation they got themselves into, and somehow every one calls him/her by that branded name.

i'm from Philippines and i call my friends in their first names or nicknames. but sometimes we prefer to call each other by the term "girl" if we are referring to our girl friends. sometimes we call each other friend as simple as that. or sometimes we give each other a pet name. like for example some of my friends call me dora as in dora the explorer coz i like going to different places and they say that i look like dora.

Ya i have also seen many of my girl friends using that word when speaking with their friends who are girls and i think that word is also great since that word describes original meaning of girl..

Well, it also depends on where you live (I think we have established that). I mean if your from the ghetto you may refer your friend as "homey", a girl friend "shawty", "dawg", I personally call my friends "bro", "dude", "homey". I am Indian also so I call my Indian friends by "Paaji" in respect, and "Yaar" to younger friends.

Ya i have heard this paaji word..I heard that everyone in the Indian cricket team used to call sachin by this word only...

Yea they call Sachin "Paaji" because it means brother in Punjabi. I use that often times to older friends as a sign of respect, and I mean who wouldn't respect the great Sachin Paaji!

Hello balacancer22! I personally call my friends by their first names or by their nicknames. Although the word friend is translated in our language as kaibigan, I do not call them by that. I prefer calling them by their first names or by their nicknames. There are times when I would call them sis (shortcut for sister). Yeah, especially my closest girl friends...

Oh Thats really great..Thanks for your reply and the word Kaibigan..and what is your mother tongue?

Hi There. Well, I have a nickname and my friends call me by my nickname. It is very rare if they call me by my real name. Sometimes, if we don't want to call them by name or whatsoever.. we just use the word "Hey Girl" "Hey Mami" when addressing to a friend that we are talking to... It is normal here. lolz. Goodluck! Thanks for the discussion! Happy New Year and Happy HOlidays! Cheers!

My dad calls everyone by there last name. It is a bit annoying, but I guess it is his thing. He has done it for years.
