SNOW DAY HURRAY! not

Well it's snowing like crazy here, already 3 inches on the ground and calling for 5 more in the next 5-6 hours. My car is horrendous in the snow so I called in to work. For the first time in over 20 years of working, I have a boss who actually told me not to worry about it. I was prepared for the usual lecture about job responsibility, etc and the usual arguments about job versus weather, and she actually said it was no problem, the store was dead and to try to get in tomorrow. I've had bosses over the years who think that no matter the weather I have to find my own way to work and there are no excuses for not being there. I live very rural, it is 15 miles to the nearest town with more than a church and gas station. The plows in our town haven't gotten to our road yet and probably won't for at least another hour or 2, we are generally the last road done. The best part is that I actually now have some time to finally get back on here. Have you ever had a boss who said you had to be to work in extreme weather? (We are under "Severe Weather Alert" from the National Weather Service, with warnings not to do any unnecessary driving if avoidable). How did you handle it?

its snowing a lot over here and if its going to last all night that pretty much cancels any plans that Im going to have for new years. Since I was planning on going to boston but I dont think thats going to happen if the snow keeps on going like this.

I have never had a boss do this. I don't think they would want the liability. Years ago I worked at a hotel restaurant. We had so much snow, we all had to stay. Staff and guests couldn't leave for two days! It was a lot of fun, we had to work, but the guests were great!
