Well Thought Out Christmas Present Turns out to be for Me and the Kids!!!

Miss A from The Letter People - If you have ever watched this series, you will know who this is. She had one of the best songs through the series. Here are the Lyrics:

"Well, I'm so happy to be Miss A,
and I'm so happy to come and play.
Oh, dear, I almost forgot to say
that when I'm happy, I sneeze all day.
All day I'm sneezing, aaaaa-choo.
When I get happy, aaaaa-choo.
Or silly, slappy, aaaaa-choo.
Give me a hanky, please,
because I've got to sneeze."

Who on MyLot remembers the Letter People? It was a cheaply made puppet show for preschoolers to learn the alphabet and beginning reading. It was made in the mid 70's and was syndicated on many PBS stations until just about 7 years ago. If you're still lost here's a YouTube link. If you've watched it at any point, you'll know exactly what I'm talking about: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qzdd0FnVHJQ And if you are still lost, and just want to know what I am talking about, here is a guide that should explain them: http://reviews.ebay.com/The-Letter-People-Fan-Club-TV-Guide_W0QQugidZ10000000001227764 Anyways, I got this idea at the last parent/teacher conference. My son had a new teacher, so I had to meet with her and see her teaching style. Little did I know I would have a blast from the past. At first, she kept asking questions about the characters on the show, and even got my son to sing one of the songs for me. They sounded familiar, but this show is not that well known, so I thought that this was just something I used to watch. I kept listening, and then she played the CD of the songs for me and him to listen to. That struck the nerve! I wanted to scream out "The Letter People!!!" lol. Turns out she has been teaching her preschool through 2nd grade classes with this video set! So then and there came the idea of finding the complete set to give to my children. Didn't take me long on EBay to find a seller, and it only cost me about $10 total. That is with shipping and handling Lawd what genius did I have when I thought to buy this set?!? When I play this DVD for my two children, you can hear a pin drop in the house! They aren't picking with each other, making random noise, or anything! They are engrossed in the show and I know for a fact there is nothing that I don't agree with about the show. I watched it myself years ago! And the best part, its EDUCATIONAL!!!! I'm telling you now, parents, go get this set for your four to eight year olds!!! Its the best piece of mind that I could have ever bought myself! So, what presents have you bought your little ones that turned out to be for you as well, this year or Christmases Past?

I have never heard of them, but I bet my daughter would love it. She is almost 2. I just looked on eBay and I found it for $8.99 with shipping. 60 episodes on DVD.

Yeah, that is what I got, but paid probably a dollar or so more for it. Maybe I should have shopped around a little more, but I had a budget, and was so excited to get this for my kids, that I purchased the very first one I saw that fit in my budget! I would say go ahead and buy this, its a great investment!!!

I just might do that. I am watching the auction right now. I don't have much in my PayPal account right now, but when I do get more in there I will probably buy them for my daughter.

Unfortunately I don't remember this at all and I thought I had seen all the kids shows there were. I checked out the guide and I am going to have to see if I can find a set for my grandkids.

Ha, it really wasn't that popular really. The crazy thing about it is I was in like the 5th grade myself when I first saw The Letter People. Due to family circumstances I stayed home from school a lot, so I watched a lot of PBS, kinda compensating for what I missed in school. That is where it was shown for what seems like forever. You can do a search on You Tube, there are several videos uploaded for this show. You can watch a few there with your grandkids to see if they will like it, and then decide from there whether you want to purchase the whole set. As someone else mentioned in this discussion, you can find it on E-bay for as cheap as $8.99.

I would have to say the treadmill. The girls were with me when I bought it so it was a surprise for DH who goes to the gym every day. He is using it when he wants to get an extra run in or doesn't feel like going to the gym. I have been walking every day and both my girls have been using it sporadically. This gift will get well used for sure. Educational DVD's are a great idea, even better when you can get them cheap. Glad to hear your children are enjoying them.

That is great! I am happy to hear that you all are getting your exercise. I won't have to buy one just as long as I live here with my grandmother; I don't drive and its a mile to the nearest bus stop lol! Yes, I agree that educational DVDs are always a great idea. My problem is finding something both my kids like. This DVD was an extra bonus because not only did both my kids like it, but this is something I used to enjoy, and I can sit with them and sing along since I know most of the words lol.
