Why do people buy iPods?

I’m having a really, really, really hard time understanding why people buy iPods. iPods REQUIRE you to have iTunes installed on your computer in order to manage the music on your iPod. This means that if you don’t have iTunes installed on your computer you can’t do anything with the $200—$300 player you just bought. It bothers me that people understand this, yet they still cough up their money to buy iPods. Furthermore iTunes limits you to managing your music on one computer. Can I be the only one that thinks this sucks? On the other hand, players from Creative Zen (for example) don’t require you to install their software. You simply plug in the player to your computer and drag and drop your music. Oh yeah, and you can do it from any computer you want! So if you have an iPod and you go to your friends house who doesn’t have iTunes, you wouldn’t be able to manage your music. But if you have a Creative Zen player (for example), you can go to anyone’s house and insert or delete all the music you feel like. You would not be limited by software. I don’t know, is there something I’m missing here about the iPods? Or is everyone basically just buying iPods because everyone else has them?

The newest iPod is a mini computer.. I use it to check my email and surf the web and listen to youtube.. you don't have to install just iTunes.. it comes with youtube installed... you have lots of music choices if you opt not to buy tunes. I love mine!

I don't know... I received one for my birthday a while back and I hate it. It kept freezing up on me. And once I had like over 200 songs on it and when I went to delete a song, somehow it ended up erasing everything. So I don't even bother with it anymore. My boyfriend on the other hand, can't live without it. He uses it in his car everyday, which I hate because he sometimes messes with it while driving. He once missed a stop sign. Luckly there wasn't anyone there. It's like people who drive and talk with a cellphone.

I totally agree. Ipod sucks. Many versions of IPOD don't come with chargers. You need to connect them to a computer to charge them. Somehow I think its easier to find a plug socket than a computer if you're on the go. Creative has excellent sound quality. Even better than Ipod sometimes. Why the hell do people buy those things. And many players do work on Macintosh, linux etc. Apple doesn't make Itunes for linux either. What the hell, people. Grow UP
