Why do they call it the funny bone?

Yesterday, I slammed my elbow into
the bathroom window ledge, by accident.
For awhile, I thought
that I'd broken a bone, cause it hurt so bad.
I think that's where the funny bone is supposedly located.
It didn't feel too funny.
Have you ever wondered why they call that
the funny bone?

I've wondered the exact same thing but I could never figure it out. However after talking to some people about the funny bone and the accidents that happen, we've pretty much determined that the funny bone is called the funny bone because people tend to laugh at you once you've hit it. You're standing there in pain and the only thing they can do is point and laugh.

Happy New Year, dear beautyqueen.
Here is some information that I found online for you to know more as follows,
"Have you ever hit the inside of your elbow in just the right spot and felt a tingling or prickly kind of dull pain? That's your funny bone! It doesn't really hurt as much as it feels weird. The "funny bone" got its nickname because of that funny feeling you get after you hit it."
Also another one from online dictionary as follows,
The explanation of "funny bone"
"a point on the elbow where the ulnar nerve passes near the surface; a sharp tingling sensation results when the nerve is knocked against the bone"
I used to have the same feeling as you have had. Take care, beautyqueen.

hi beautyqueen...i've often wondered and so have others. my guess is that you feel a reaction unlike any other bone that gets knocked. thus it's a funny feeling. not meaning in humor but meaning funny-strange. and yes it most certainly can hurt.
