good people, righteous one but never had progress financially in their lives..

I was wondering why there are some good people, righteous people which are dedicated to their different roles in their lives but still they never had a chance to alleviate their lives in the society. But how come those unrighteous mostly get the upper hand in spite the fact that some of them even working illegally against our society. They said that "Life is what we made it", yes, i think this would be a contradicting phrase to those working honestly, hardly, righteously and hoping for the best of their lives especially to their own families...How's that?
