Year 2009 Disaster!!

I still do not understand what's the big deal about celebrating a new year! *Shrugs* Well, we have just said goodbye to year 2008 12 hours ago, and welcomed in the new year 2009!! It was not a great night out as the streets were full of people and our phone networks were jammed and no one could call in or out to one another! In the end, I missed the countdown (partly because I overslept till 1am) and by the time my friends could contact me was at 12.15am. And from there, we headed off to the city area to celebrate the ushering of the new year. Alas, all the pubs and clubs were jammed packed with people and in the end after walking up and down the streets of Clarke Quay, we left for home. The wait for any form of transport was horrible! Buses were packed full with people and the entire streets were littered with people trying to get on a bus or at least hired a cab. The entire situation was so chaotic that people spilled over to the roads in a bid to out flag the other people in getting up a bus or flagging down a taxi! Buses and cars were forced to swerve from 4 lanes into 1 lane as people were running down the lane in order to get a cab! In the end, I waited a grand total of 45 minutes to get a transport! And it was only with the help of a kind person who gave up the taxi that he had flagged to me that i managed to a get a transport out of the place to a coffeeshop near by my house for me to spend the rest of the morning chit chatting with my friends. I won't say that it was a nice new year for me. Lol. Remind me never to try to go for countdown ever again! It was a bad idea, and the best thing? I spent $100 in transport and done nothing! *Shakes head* How was the new year for you? Share your stories here! Hehe, hopefully your experiences are much better than mine! Happy mylotting guys and a happy new year to all of you!! Cheers!

Hey gal.. looks like u are the only one lamenting about a brand new year.. lol =D Well, that's expected, and that's why i never like going for countdowns.. lol =D What's more, this is the end of year countdown, welcoming a brand new year, so it's definitely be very chaotic.. lol =D But i dun understand one thing.. WHy would u be sleeping so early b4 u went for countdown?? lol =D mOst ple will be out early to avoid any jams or before any road closure.. But for u, u are only out of the house after the countdown starts.. lol =D I did go for such countdown only once, and i dun like it.. hehe ^_^ I think it's about 8 yrs ago.. lol =D I was counting down at suntec with my frenz, b4 we decide to spend the night at east coast park.. But we din take any transport there, instead, we walk.. lol =D So by time we reach there, it's time to u-turn back home again.. Stupid right?? hehe ^_^ But at least, we saved on the midnight fares, for an early breakfast the next day.. lol =D If i'm u, just spending about $100 for transport, i will rather not go out at all, when i know everywhere is gonna be so crowded.. haha =D That's why this yr i'm smart, i stayed at home.. lol =D HAppy new year to u again ^_^

haha.. U need to be more patient when it comes to time like this ^_^ Everybody is fighting for cabs to go home after counting down and partying, thus it's always hard to get cabs.. hehe ^_^ I think i know why that kind soul gave his cab to u, because u charm him off his feet with your cuteness.. lol =D Well, i dun have such a priviledge like u too because i was out counting down for christmas a few years back.. ANd i waited for a cab for about 2hrs, and there was nobody to give up their cab but instead, there were more ple cutting queue.. lol =D SO, u are much luckier than me.. hehe YEah, u should have just sleep on, and be mylotting away.. Because it saves u time, and can earn money too, instead of out spending it all on transport.. hehe ^_^ Or maybe the next countdown on chinese new year, u can do it at the coffee shop near your house.. lol =D MAybe u can consider chinatown too, because i'm stayign near chinatown, and so u need not worry about transport either.. It's just a 15mins walk.. lol =D

Lol I am not lamenting about the brand new year, but rather about how it was ushered in! That's the thing that I hate. I hate waiting and well, I waited for at least 1 1/2hour just to get a transport back home, and it is all thanks to a kind soul! If not for him, I think I would still be stuck there for goodness knows? Hehe, I was bored and actually I wasn't thinking of celebrating the New Year at all! I was actually thinking of just sleeping through it and well, Mylot during Midnight or so when there are more people here on mylot. However, at around 1, my friends called me and dragged me out. That is why I was there after the countdown! That sounds kind of stupid too when you put it that way. Hehe at the very least, you did not waste any money just time right? So, it is still better than wasting both time and money! Power of positive thinking eh!! Well, I did not expect myself to spend that much on transport too! If I knew, well, I would not have had stepped out of my house at all! Sigh~ everywhere in Singapore needs money, and that is a fact. Once you step out of the house, expect to spend $$ because it's evitable! Happy New Year to you too!!

ha ha ha ha...that is exactly what I used to do during countdowns Kun. That is till I got my DSLR and I want to capture the fireworks. So far only managed to capture the 2007 ones. But the HDD crashed. And I lost all my pictures along with it. Except for the one I posted in mylot, the rest, are well, bye bye. This year I wanted to go, but I was travelling instead. The crowd is terrible. So many foreign works rushing forwards when the sky lit up with fireworks. It is a good thing I held on to my camera. Else it would have been gone as well. To get a good spot, had to wait for hours. Way before sun down have to stand and wait at the spot liow. Sigh... the things I do to capture a few good pictures. :p

yikes! it's good that we didn't attend the marina bay concert! We just stayed over at a friend's home and watched it on TV. It was a good night spent with friends playing charades while having snacks and a few drinks I am shocked that you spent $100 on just transport! Wow! That's a lot of money gone in 1 night! anyway, hope that 2009 will be a good and lucky year for all of us!

Nice to meet a fellow Singaporean!! There are too few of us around in Mylot. Lol =D Yeah~ You are lucky that you did not go for the countdown during New Year! It was a real chaotic situation there, and I really pity those who are working around there during the New Year as they too, were stranded with no transportation back home! Your New Year sounds much more better than mine. A night spent with a few friends still sounds much better than a night out squeezing with the crowd. Oh Well, I learnt my lesson. To you too, I wish you the best of 2009! Happy new year!!

Wow... another kaki! Add me as friend leh! Heh heh... well, spending some time with friends over a few drinks and some games is a good way to bid the old year good bye and welcome the new one. I probably would have been at the Marina Bay to try and capture some of the fireworks had I not been travelling on that evening. Well, the new year is here. There is another one to look forward to at the end of the month!

Ahgong, now now now, don't be lazy! Pick up that finger of yours, and add her as a friend! IT won't take up too much of your energy just to do that, even though you self-admitted that you are old. =X But, seriously, Singaporeans are just as rare as it comes on Mylot. I would love to have more of our countrymen here! =D Ahh~ So the secret is out! Lol, it is more of convenience than anything else that attracts you to Marina Bay on New Year's Eve eh? Too bad I didn't see you there, otherwise I would had pestered you to send me home as poor me was waiting for a transport back home up to 5am! I would not want to go through that experience ever again. Haha once bitten twice shy. Once is enough! Hehe, the one at the end of the month involves getting money!! Hehe.. money money! I can't wait for that! In fact, CNY sounds much better than New Year as one involves spending money, and the other is more of taking in money. Well, at least for us - the unmarried ones! =D Any chances of you giving me an Ang Bao for this year? hehe

Well, I was on the bus travelling towards Penang. At the stroke of mid-night, I was just beyond Yong Peng. Watching a movie on the in-entertainment unit. My wife was soundly sleeping beside me. Gave her a nice new year's peck on the cheek and then I fell a sleep shortly after that. Woke up the next morning in KL. The streets was still packed with people even at 3am in the morning! I was surprised at the number of cars and people that were still on the road at that ungodly hour. Reached Penang shortly before sun rise. And had a hearty breakfast with my family at my favorite stall. That was how I spent my New Year's eve. Travelling.

That sounds like an unique way to be spending your New Year! Hehe, at least it is something different from what the majority of Singaporeans are doing. *Shrugs* Anyway, what were you doing going up to Penang? Damn, if only I know, we might even be travelling on the same coach as I go up to Penang every now and then! Lol. If you have the habit to travel up often, maybe one of these days, we might really meet on the same coach on something, though I don't think I would recognise you even if I see you! Lol =D Well, the only places that I can think of that is so into the English New Year in Malaysia would be the more developed areas such as KL, Ipoh and Penang. other than those places, majority of other places are just quiet as they are preparing for the Chinese New year! Just like when I called up my boyfriend in Perak during the New Year, they were celebrating Chinese New Year! And I was like ..

I was visiting my relatives in Penang. You travel to Penang often too? I used to go in on a regular basis. Now, it is less. But I do try to go in as much as possible. Love the food there. Well, I may keep a look out for you then. Heh heh... which bus do you usually travel with? Grassland? Konsortium (now called Five Stars)? Trans Star? Sri Maju? Alishan?

You have relatives in Penang? Hehe, so are you Malaysian? Well, I used to go up twice a month without fail to visit my boyfriend and some friends there. However, now I go up once a month or two due to lack of time! Hehe, when had Konsortium become known as Five Stars? Lol, they are two separate companies altogether! Well, as the place I go to is a Kampung area, only 3 buses goes there on the way to Penang Terminal and the choices I have is between Grassland, Konsortium and KKKL. I actually alternate between all three companies depending on my timings, and budget. In the past, I used to just take Grassland until it broke down in the middle of nowhere and they refused to tell us anything and in the end, I only reached my destination at 1130am (when I should reach there by latest 5.30am!) and I had to go back at night at 9pm on the very same day. I was pissed off as if they were to tell us earlier at 3am that the bus had broken down, we would have had arranged our own transportation but then they didn't. I then switched alliance to Konsortium and had stuck with that company ever since as they have never let me down before! Timing between stops is a strict 20minutes, and well, I always reach my destination at 4.30am, which is a very good timing! Even when the bus is late, the latest I ever reached my destination was at 5.15am which is still better than the other two companies. And the best thing is that I can pay for my tickets with a credit card as opposed to Grassland, and it's also $10 cheaper than Grassland. For KKKL, I will only take if I really have no cash on me. That is because the tickets are just RM50 and I have a lot of RM in my Malaysia bank! What about you??

Yeah i too see this trend in my country. now a days people want to go out and enjoy the new year. this number has gone up tremendously that we just feel it is like a morning traffic but at night 1200. thats why all these traffic jams and all. but as long as these party moments don't turn into wild and forgettable ones, it is ok. happy new year friend.

i didn't do anything much for new year's eve last night because i know that the road will be jammed and packed with people... so i prefer to just stay at home with my hubby and watch the fireworks from the TV... it is more than enough for me... the fact that i can spend new year's eve with my hubby and my church friends last night already make me more than happy... take care and have a nice day...

Allow me to wish you a very happy new year 2009!! And may this year bring you a much better lifestyle than last year! That is a romantic night to be spending a year with your husband watching fireworks! Hehe (Just kidding!) But, I must really say that most Mylotters are smart like you to stay at home and do the countdown, unlike me I'm glad that you have a good New Year, and well thanks for your response and happy mylotting!!

Here where I live the new year is still an hour away. But we have fireworks going off all over the neighborhood. I'm not going to stay up much longer to watch the new year in. It will come whether I'm up or not. I have a date with a good book and I'll probably read for about 30 minutes then drift off to sleep.

Hehe.. You are right in saying that the New Year will come regardless of whether it has our help our not . That sounds like quite a good idea to just curl up in bed and read before sleeping. And one could say that I have been reading non-stop for a year =D Lol! We have never had fireworks here in Singapore as it is illegal. Oh well.. Happy new Year 2009 to you!!!
