How many of you are using firecrackers this new year's eve?

when I was yet in the Philippines, I used to watch fire crackers and hear those different blasting sounds during Christmas eve and new year's eve but when I come to US? I never heard of even a single blast or firecrackers. the place where I am now is very quiet. While I am writing this post it is still 11pm of the 21st. Just an hour away for the new year. Am sure i will never hear any blast at 12. No nose baradge or whatsoever. I miss the Philippine Christmas and new year.

No I won't be using fireworks for New Year's. I rarely if ever use them even for 4th of July. I don't really like all the noise in the middle of the night myself. Even though most of us are awake watching the midnight hour roll by, there are some who are sleeping, and some who have to work early and need to sleep. The fireworks can wake them up and keep them from sleeping. I used to have this problem on 4th of July and for days before and afterward when I worked night shift and slept days. All my neighbors who used the fireworks kept me awake all those days when I needed my sleep so I could do my job.

So in the Philippines you have no hospitals or medical centers or institutions where people live that need cared for? I worked in nursing homes night shifts, and in group homes where the mentally retarded and developmentally disabled lived. Unfortunately there are many many people who are working on holidays that most people just take for granted because they don't think about them until they need them. But if you got hurt in the middle of the night, or on a holiday, I am sure you would find someone working at the hospital where you would be taken.

Hi Che, It is really different. I heard 3 blasts at exactly 212 midnight and that was it. The 4rth of July is more important celebration for Americans than the Christmas and new year. Also the thanksgiving day.

Not me. We used to love fireworks but then not only was it dangerous, it also contributed a lot to air pollution. In my place, the air is always foggy with smoke around New Year's eve. People just love looking at bright lights without realizing how bad it is for the air! Sure, it's noisy here in the Philippines, but I think we should consider the long term destructive effects of fireworks before lighting up...

you are right people do not realize the destruction these fireworks brought them. Some landed in the hospitals due to accidents, I don;t like that fireworks in any sense of the word.
