Have anybody tasted FALUDA, which is a combination of vanilla ice cream, with jellies, semiya and other nuts and some spices. This is basically available only in Muslim Hotels in my town. I love this faluda, and always eat it when I get a chance. Is this available in your place ?

Yes, I have had faluda while in Bombay. I had gone as a tourist there long time back but I still remember the faluda. Back home, I had tried to make it but of course the results were not even close to what I had had. No, faluda is not available in Calcutta, at least not that I know of. Maybe some expensive restaurant does have it on their menu, but its not a regular item in Calcutta.

Really surprising that faluda is not available in Calcutta, I do not think that we will be able to do it at home.In Chennai it is available only in Muslim run restaurants, and at least as far as knowledge goes, it is not available in expensive restaurants. You know Sudipta, expensive hotels do not make our Indian foods, and mostly what we get is the bland tasteless western or Continental food.

hi rameshkumaar, my dear friend, i also love faluda ice cream a lot but i love to have it from very original and genuine faluda making shop. i dont like what is served at every shop next by and then they call it faluda ice cream. i love faluda ice cream with nice piece of kulfi, covered with thick malai, that is cream of boiled milk, then some sweet noodles style all over the kulfi and then a dash of rose water for that aroma when its served. oh man1!!! my mouth is watering i want it just now.

Thanks for the response aquafishsilver, I think you have joined mylot very recently, and I warmly welcome you to our mylot. Even though I do not know from which state you are from, I guess it should be Delhi and the faluda which you are mentioning is of Roshan gulfi, yes coming to think of it , my mouth is also watering, but what can I do, I am sitting in far away Chennai. Coming to the point, the faluda which I have mentioned is slightly different, with some jellies and some nuts are also added, this is basically a Ice cream made in Muslim Hotels.

Hi, Yes its avaialble in my place. Though i dont eat it a lot.Very rarely i eat ice creams and i like the cup ice creams the most. Faluda is avaible in the roadside ice cream corners and that is one of the reason i avoid it. BTW i still wonder why do we say " Izzat ka faluda ho gaya" ? Cheers, Tutul

Hi, tutul, I am from Chennai, and in Chennai, faluda is available only in Muslim Hotels and it is not available in the roadside Ice cream corners. Which part of India are you from. Regarding Izzat ka faluda ho gaya, I do not know why somebody should say such a thing about that nice ice cream, is it because it is mostly made by muslims. Cheers.

Iam from mumbai and this faluda is avaialble in plenty here. Well i hope thats not the reason they call it faluda ramesh. There is no point in making fun of a religion. Cheers, Tutul

Thanks for the response arthi, it seem we Indians love the faluda, I really envy you, because during my days in the college we did not have such kind of ice creams and the only pleasure I got was having hot tea on a hot day in Chennai.

hi, ramesh this is the first time i heard of Faluda. i do not think it is available here in our place. it sounds very interesting, although i do not know what semiya is. i am intrigued of what faluda tastes like because, as you said, there are spices. anyway, thanks for the info. i will definitely keep Faluda in mind and try it when i get the opportunity. have a nice day!

Thanks for the response rainegurl, I am sorry, since I was thinking in my mother tongue and typing, and I typed semiya, this is nothing but vermicelli (something like noodles, but broken into smaller pieces), basically this is made by Muslims in India, and they add so many things into it, and it comes in a big glass tumbler, and you have put a long spoon into the faluda, mix the vannila ice cream and then taste it. Next time you visit India, do not fail to eat faluda or Kulfi( another milk ice cream which is famous in India.)
