Horrible Buffet Habits

Have you ever encountered fellow patrons of a buffet outlet that display disgusting habits? I was at this sushi buffet restaurant having my dinner. Just in front of my table was this other table of family. The conveyor belt that contained our free-flow of sushi would first go through that table before reaching mine. What happen was, the father of the family, picked up one of the plates from the conveyor belt, took up the plastic covering of the plate, put his nose real close to the sushi, took a DEEEP breath, and decided the sushi wasn't for him and put the plate back into the conveyor belt. Trust me, that totally turned my appetite off. It's so rude and disgusting. I found myself looking out at which plates he has "contaminated" in order to avoid eating off those plates. What about you? Have you ever encountered such rude and impolite people?

A few years ago I went to a buffet with my kids.....we had gotten our first plate full when some bozo came behind us tasting everything with the same fork..so he put his dirty fork in about 10 different dishes....I told my kids no seconds today and since then I really haven't went to many buffets!

Oh my... that's disgusting. Someone should have told on him and gotten him in trouble. I'm sure he wouldn't have liked it if someone else had been doing the same thing. People have to be careful when eating in places like buffets because you never know if things like that happened before you go to take your food.

Welcome to the reality. I see such `spectacles ` every day. This is one of the reasons why I avoid eating in public places, because people who think they are so clean and pure manages to `smell, touch and try` destroys all my beliefs in humanity and respects for others. And then comes my turn and I will eat or wear something that was `tried out` already by someone other. Yaik! If I don`t do such things, I know there are plenty of people who do such things. My advice: just keep Your eyes opened!

Yes, that's disgusting and so inconsiderate of him. Some people just don't know manners. They just go about their awful behavior without bothering about others around them. Worse is that they don't consider what they do rude to other diners, just because they are a paying diner. Next time, sit at the table before his, so that the food reaches you first before it reaches him!! Luckily I've not had very unpleasant experiences at buffets. One bad practice I do come across though is people piling their plate high with goodies like prawns and oysters. They don't care if others have a chance at getting a share of the food. When they can't finish, they just leave the remainder behind still on their plates, and that's real wastage of food. Some restaurants impose a fine or surcharge on diners who waste food at buffets, and probably such rules are targeted at such greedy and inconsiderate diners.

That is just wrong what that man did to the sushi. I would have told someone about that so it wouldn't happen again. I have to admit I have accidentally picked up a roll with my bare hands an put it back then I realized what I did an I picked it up with my hand again an put it on my plate my hand didn't touch any of the other rolls. I have seen kids grab and dig around in the finger food with their bare hands and I just avoided the food they had touched lol.

I must admit I have yet to experience something like that before because the Japanese buffets we have in my city do not have conveyor belt. They are more towards ala carte or those typical buffet style kind of dishes. I have only seen people who got so greedy, that they took whole plate full of prawns or whole plate full of crabs. Just for themselves. I wonder don't they get bored or something? Also, I used to go to this hotel which was having Japanese buffet promotion and there were a lot of fresh oysters there. The bad news was that every time the new set of oysters came out, they were been wiped out within 1 minute. Another experience of mine was during a steamboat buffet where they served very tasty fried chicken wings. Some of the customers stood next to the counter waiting for the chicken wings to come and when they do come, the customers fought with each other for those chicken wings and some even used their bare hands to go grab the chicken wings!

That is super gross! I would have reported him to the manager. I hate buffets for that very reason! Happy New Year!

How cool .. I mean the conveyor belt thing, I have never heard of such a thing. Luckily I haven't ran into anybody like this as I would probably end up saying something. People like need to be told that it isn't polite and we would prefer not to have their germs all over everything.

I have run across that also and it is disgusting. Makes a person wonder how the person was brought up. Things like that is what has cured me from wanting to eat in restaurants. It is just no worth the bother.

Gross. I guess I'm lucky that I've never encountered anything like that when eating... or if I had then I can't remember right now. I'll come back and leave another comment if I remember something like that happening to me. My boyfriend burps really loud sometimes though and I yell at him for it lol. I think he does it to annoy me because he knows I don't like him doing it.

For this reason I seldom if ever do buffets. I don't even like food enough to eat it let alone look at so much at one time. It almost makes me ill. When I have to go to a place called Incrediable Pizza for a kids birthday party I pay and do not eat. Everyone who walks in "must" pay. I might eat 1 piece of pizza but there is so much there it is horrid. People are eating as if there is no tomorrow.

Yes that is real disgusting .Some persons dont have any consideration for others. My all time worst would be persons who use their hands at a buffet to pick everything up and then put it back down .Next come persons who cough around a buffet without covering their mouth and pretending as if its nothing

It really sounds so gross. I don't know if it would have been right to report it to the manager so he will be the one to tell that person of what he was doing was not right. I wonder why somebody would do that in front of other people. I think if I was there I would be making faces to the guy or better yet tell him straight not to do it. He's not supposed to do that.;-)
